K/S 2009 Advent Art

Dec 15, 2009 09:01

My contribution to the 2009 K/S Advent Calender. ksadvent2009

I'd love to be articulate about this piece right now, but I've been awake for 21 hours with all my love and focus having been on THIS.

So, I'm going to bed.

Hope everyone enjoys the art :)

I have come back to your beautiful artwork at least half a dozen times over the last twenty four hours and each time I do, I notice something new. It truly is a feast for the eyes, with so much in the detail. It reminds me of older paintings that contain fanciful imagery that I know is a form of symbolism, but the extact nature of it escapes me. I know this time of year is viewed at death and rebirth, and I see the the almost leafless tree and the bunny rabbit, that perhaps symbolise it. I wondered what those medalions at the top were as they looked similar to zodiac symbols, and saw they originate from Germany.

I love the way the autumn merges into winter echoed by Kirk and Spock, with the flames above them as Spock burns for his bondmate. This is such a gorgeous piece -- thank you so much for sharing it. :-)

I'm glad you enjoy it enough to keep coming back! Thank you very very much for the kind compliments :)

I overloaded these piece with symbolism . . . the medallions are of Germanic origin. The fox and the hare were originally put in to push the idea of fall and winter and then I realized how our favorite couple shares similarities with their respective animals.

Thanks again for taking the time to look over my art.

thank you so much for sharing it. :-)

You are quite welcome :)

Oh yeah! There is also a connection with the animals and the furred coat the pair is wearing.

Foxes and hares (among other animals) will shed their colored spring coats and grow in a white winter coat for camouflage . . . I tried to portray the pattered, mottled section of their coat being taken over by the clean white :)
