I'm not familiar with what groups of soldiers fit certain purposes-- eg calvary, infantry, brigade. Well, I'm familiar with those terms, but I have a feeling that for the most part I'm completely ignorant. I would just stick with infantry = foot, cavalry = mounted for the type of unit, although if you want to go further than that, you can divide them into light and heavy, based on their armor. Oh, and there's also archery units, including horse archers. There's wikipedia articles on each of those types of units. Ooo, Medieval horses! (When it comes to horses, I'm still ten years old inside.)
