I didn't expect this to be a problem, but I don't know what to do with all these characters! I'm used to writing fics that focus on one or two characters at a time. Now I have six people all having a conversation, and I'm about to add two more. I feel like no matter what I do, someone's going to be standing around not saying anything. I could go off and explain what they're thinking, but that would break the flow of the scene. I have a new-found respect for authors of ensemble stories.
I had a similar problem. I'm taking the Game of Thrones approach and having each chapter be from a different character's point of view. That way even in a crowd, there's a definite character who you're living through a scene with. It also solves the problem of "not every character is in every scene." When ton of characters are in a scene together it can be difficult, though, but at least you have one person to interrupt the mess through. It helps me when writing at least.
IDK, Hope that helps? It's a strange way of handling it, but Game of Thrones balanced a ton of characters that way so I'm giving it a shot. I can ramble more about my fic if you want examples of how I'm doing it.
That's kind of what I'm doing. I'm writing from third person limited and shifting my viewpoint character every now and then. The problem is that I get too wrapped up in what my viewpoint character is doing and forget the rest. Like Rose and Dean just keep talking, and suddenly I'm like, "Wait, when was the last time Sherlock said something? Is he just standing there watching Rose and Dean talk?"
Maybe it's not as bad as I think. Or maybe I'll have to edit the hell out of it later. Eh, it's just weird.
I'll check back in on the characters sometimes, but yeah, if the character who's POV you are writing from hasn't glanced at the other characters in a while, just have them, you know, check out what's going on. I haven't gotten to my big 6 person scene yet, but it's coming and I still don't know who's POV I'm going to have it from. I'm leaning towards John because he's the newest person to the world of demons and aliens in my fic and he'd have the most dymanic thoughts about the situation, but I still don't know yet. To make it even worse, my six person scene is a discussion followed by an intense action sequence. WHAT AM I DOING
I've noticed no one has signed up for the beta role, and I could use some help in terms of bouncing ideas off someone. I have a weird problem, that I have a good SuperWho story idea, and a good SuperLock story idea, but the two refuse to meet in the middle. Like Sherlock, I do best when I think out loud and get some feedback.
In other words ... Wanna' be a Sherlock's skull for me?
I could really use someone to cheerlead/crack the whip at me. I keep getting sucked into kink memes, which is really slowing me down. Anyone wanna help keep me on task? I can try to return the favor :D
Does anyone know of any good resources on Islamic mythology/burial culture (or, hells, any religion that isn't either Judaism or Christianity)? I am willing to take anything, including academic papers.
I am familiar with the rough outline of Islam...I'm just not very familiar with the stuff surrounding death/dying/disposal of the corpse and really don't fancy treading on anyone's toes if I misrepresent something vitally important.
(AKA, Squeek rewrites to book on Hunting, 'cause she doesn't think Watson would have been trained in a manner we consider 'traditional' - as represented by the Winchesters)
We need to advertise more! So many people don't know about the SuperWhoLock big bang. I have been around on Deviantart, talking to people who draw for two or more of the fandoms, as well as asking relevant communities to advertise, and I might have hooked a couple of artists, but we need more, and authors as well.
So come on, guys, let's use these two days before the authors' deadline arrives! Who can you talk to? Where do fans of SuperWhoLock hang out, and how do we catch their attention?
Of course, Deviantart is a huge place, so just because I've "been around" doesn't mean I've talked to 1/10 of the possible artists. If any of you stumble over someone awesome, do tell them to get their butts over here.
