The Dead Beat: Lost Souls, Lucky Stiffs, and the Perverse Pleasures of Obituaries by Marilyn Johnson is... interesting. I had no idea that there are people in this world obsessed with obits, much less that they have a newsgroup and an annual convention. Fascinating. She has a new book called "This Book is Overdue" about librarians. It's gotten great reviews and people are excited about it. I started reading it, but there was nothing new to me. I don't need to read a book about how librarians are vital and awesome but some people do and some librarians have a higher tolerance for that than someone fresh out of library school.
