It was late afternoon.
They lay in a field above Locksley. Clichéd, they knew, but it was just where they ended up. It had been a manic few weeks, both adjusting to living at such close proximity to each other. There had been many petty rows already, the servants were becoming used to the sudden mood changes of their lord and lady.
Although they were now legally joined as husband and wife, it seemed that they were spending less time together than ever. They knew it was just a phase, their combined estates were taking a while to adjust to their new lord and Robin’s workload would soon decrease. But that didn’t make it any easier.
He had taken her to the forest after lunch and they had spent hours just walking and talking. Quite a luxury, considering she hadn’t seen him by daylight for the past few days. Just as they rounded the top of the hill that would take them back to the manor he slipped and arm around her waist and pulled her flush against him, pressing a passionate kiss to her lips.
It was hours later that Marian rolled over and gave him a gentle poke in the stomach.
“We should be getting back”
He partially opened one eye.
“We should, doesn’t mean we have to”
She smiled wryly then placed a hand on his chest and leaned over to whisper against his ear.
“No, but as your wife I’m asking you to take me home”
He raised his eyebrows and scrambled to his feet, causing Marian to laugh delightedly at his eagerness. He grabbed her hands and pulled her to her feet.
“You know,” he said, entwining his fingers with hers as they set off down the hill, “I quite enjoy being married. I may do it a few times more…”
She smacked his arm, causing his smile to deepen into a hearty laugh.
