BSOVMD (Blue screen of very much dead)

Jul 13, 2007 15:45

Today was a rather interesting day. I've been working at our Lexus dealership for the past three days, installing and configuring new computers to replace some of our aging ones (Read as: Older than DOS). Yesterday, I set up a new machine for one of the women in customer support and began to transfer her data from her old machine to her new one ( Read more... )

Man how we all hate the BSOD. And USB 1.0. Ouch. Didnt have any NIC's in the PC's and a crossover cable or were the PC's you are transfering data from on complete opposite sides of the building and cant be brought together?

The two machines were fairly far apart, and I didn't have any crossover cable on me. I could have bought some out of pocket, but I hate doing that. This was about the best way I could think of doing it, as I couldn't slave the drive either. (The new machine only supports SATA)

Ah. That sucks but I know how ya feel. Sucks if there far apart and the company wont invest the couple of dollars it takes to make a crossover or buy a premade.

Okay, it's time to give the little kit a lesson in history... Prince was (is) the greatest musical artist ever to grace a stage with his presence! Unfortunately, he was somewhat overshadowed by Michael Jackson who, while Prince was producing actual music, pranced onto stage and gave a really.. well, a show.

This is John, a customer advocate at Dell headquarters in Texas.

I loved this blog! I was on the edge of my seat in suspense waiting to find out that you fixed it "hacker style," and the ending left me waiting for the sequel. Did she have to reinstall her OS after her registry was eaten? Did it do the trick?

If she needs any help, please feel free to point her in my direction. She can get me at:

Kudos on this blog. You made the daily drudge of computer work (which is near and dear to me) sound very appealing.

Well, I haven't actually been back to that particular store this week, as I've been at one of our many other locations fixing random things. However, when I'm there next, I will make sure to find out what she did with her notebook. I'd actually be curious to know myself, heh.

Great! It sounds to me like she's in very capable hands. Feel free to use me as a resource if it gets weird.
