Parking Lot by Causeway, Fandom, Friday Evening

Jun 01, 2007 18:50

After Charlie's phone call, Zero ran back to her cabin to get her
mallet, kicking boots, and a change of clothes, made sure Fish had
enough food, then dashed down to the parking lot by the causeway.

Isabel was leaning against her car waiting for everyone to turn up
for the road trip to Peter's when she saw Zero run up. "Zero? Is
everything okay?"

Zero dashed over to Dave. "Peter!" she said as she pitched her bag
into the backseat. "Kidnapped! Charlie in New York!"

"What?" she asked, confused. She could see Peter kidnapping Charlie
as some sort of Stickbug prank, but Isabel doubted that would have Zero
this upset. "What do you mean kidnapped?"

"Charlie called and some squallers kidnapped Peter! Going to New
York to save him!" Zero explained.

"I'm going with you," Isabel said. "Back-up's always a good thing."
Without waiting for an answer, she popped the trunk of her car, pulled
out her bag and started for Dave.

Zero didn't argue, because Isabel was already here and wouldn't
waste any of her time. "Okay! Hop in!" She didn't even think to ask why
Isabel was already here.

She tossed her bag in and took a seat, already reaching for her
cell phone. "I owe a few people explanations for why they're going to turn
up in a bit and nto find me. I was supposed to be going to New York
this weekend. Just..the other Peter's New York."

Zero started Dave and asked Isabel, "Can you do that while we
drive?"

Isabel nodded, "Through the magic of cellphones, yes. Let's get
moving."

Suddenly a dark, floppy haired figure dropped seemingly out of
nowhere onto the van. Even though his figure was obscured by dramatic
shadows, he clearly resembled Peter Parker.

Wouldn't that be a surprise?

Zero blinked dumbly at the windshield. And the guy on the
windshield like a bug. "My groupies are falling from the sky now?" Then
she honked the horn, because obviously they couldn't leave with some guy
on the van.

Zero wasn't thinking too clearly.

Focused on her cell, Isabel hadn't really been paying attention.
Then she looked up. "The hell?"

The figure moved off the windshield and crawled like a spider onto
the driver's side door, knocking on the window.

A wary Zero closed the fingers of one hand around her mallet and
cranked the window down with her other hand, as Dave did not come
equipped with power windows.

"Excuse me, did I hear you talking about Peter Parker?" a familiar
voice asked. He brought his face into clear view of the window. It
looked much like Peter's face, but it seemed to be only half finished.

Sometimes Zero just couldn't shut her mouth off. "What happened to
your face? I-I mean, it's okay, hooskspider, I still love you, but, er,
how did you get here so fast?" And why are you acting so creepy?

"Peter?" Isabel asked warily, mindful of the little voice inside
her head that was pretty much yelling that something just wasn't
right.

"Does anyone else know what happened to him?" the scarred guy
asked, overly curious.

This, Zero realized, was not her boyfriend. Her grip tightened on
her mallet as she did her best to stay frightened-looking and -sounding.
"What are you talking about?"

"You can't help him," not!Peter said, giving a creepy smile. "I
won't let you."

"Try and stop us," Isabel said as she raised her hand.

"Clearly," Zero added, "you don't know who we are."

Not!Peter shrugged. "We need better recon on this place. I'm not
worried. I'm Spider-Man." With that, he reached into the van, looking to
pull out whomever he resisted less.

"Yeah? And I'm pissed," Isabel muttered as she attempted to use her
powers to toss him off the van.

"Spider-Man" tried to dodge, but any danger sense he may have had
wasn't enough to dodge a close-range attack like that. He flew off the
door and landed face first on the asphalt. "You have powers. My father
told me that there might be people with powers."

Zero slammed the door of the van open and hopped out, mallet at the
ready. "Yeah? Your father tell you about angry punk girlfriends,
too?"

Spider-Man popped up to his feet and shrugged. "No. Should I be
worried?" Clearly he felt the answer was no because he charged Zero,
aiming a punch.

Zero ducked the punch and swung her mallet at the creepy fake
boyfriend. "Squall yes!"

The blow connected with the back of Spider-Man's head, sending him
rolling forward. He quickly turned to face Zero again and snarled at
her. "That won't happen again."

"Want to bet?" Isabel asked, sending a nearby garbage can flying
towards Faux Peter.

Spider-Man ducked, the garbage can only grazing his head. He leaped
towards Isabel, aiming a kick.

The fact that he was doing this to a girl who had just shown herself to
have telekinesis might have indicated that this guy wasn't much for
field experience.

Her reflexes hadn't really dulled all that much since she'd been
back from Antar, so Isabel was able to dodge out of the way. Raising her
hand once more, she attempted to send him flying again.

And sure enough, Spider-Man went flying again. "I don't like
powers," he said upon impact with the ground. "I'll kill you for that!" He
started to get up, giving a cold look to Isabel with his good eye.

"That's okay," Zero informed him. "I don't have powers."

And then she attempted to kick him with her magic boots.

Spider-Man wasn't about to be shown up by a pair of boots, so he
flipped backwards, attempting to land behind Zero for a sneaky
attack.

Isabel wasn't about to let that happen. So here came that garbage
can again. "Will you just give it up already?"

The garbage can hit him flush in the chest, sending him falling
backwards. "Never! I won't let you get to New York!" He got to his knees
and threw the garbage can back with his spider-strength.

The garbage can bounced harmlessly off the shimmery shield that
suddenly appeared in front of Isabel. "Why?"

Spider-Man smiled. "Because those were my orders. That's all you
need to know." He charged towards Isabel, zigging a little to make it
easier to dodge an attack.

Isabel didn't move. Instead she let him take her down, wrapping her
arms around him as she did so.

"What?" Spider-Man asked as they hit the ground. "What are you
doing?"

"This," Zero said, and swung her croquet mallet right at fake
Peter's head.

And with that, the self-proclaimed Spider-Man was out cold.

Isabel shoved Faux Peter off of her and climbed to her feet.
"Thanks. What do you want to do with him?"

"Leavehimwecancallthetroopersfromtheroadlet'sgo," Zero said in a
rush.

"Works for me," she nodded, heading for the van and climbing in.
"Let's try this again."

Zero climbed back into the van and cranked it up.

Isabel buckled up and held on tight.
