And more will definitely be happening! Characters keep introducing themselves and dragging in bits of plot and I'm trying to sort and store them, all the while going "Where in the world am I supposed to put you?" *throws up hands* It's a wonderful problem to have. ;)

Thank you! :D

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH IT IS EVERYTHING I WANT TO READ IN A STORY EVER AND I NEED MORE OF IT

It reminds me so very much of Demon Drums, my highest praise to bestow upon stories.

Not only liking this but wanting to read more is the highest compliment I know for writing, so thank you! :D I will admit, I had to Google it - are you referring to the novel by Carol Severance? I haven't read it, but after that I might need to!

Demon Drums, by Carol Severance, yes! It's one of my all-time favorite stories, and has very much a "feel" like this 'verse. I can't wait for more -- I think I've reread this every afternoon this week. :)

And to be clear, the similarities aren't in the detail (the world, the characters, the plot arcs, etc), but in the feeling -- restrained prose that allow rich imagination of the scenes, and attention to the differences between having magic and being magic that whet the reader's appetite for more.

:D

Thank you! :) I was worried about the tonal change between the first fic and this one, but figured, "Eh, screw it!" and threw my cares to the wind. It seems to have worked out all right.
