this is the part where someone plays 'monster mash'

In honor of All Hallow’s Eve, I’m inviting trick-or-treaters to my ‘door.’ Comment “trick-or-treat” to this post and…well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics of fave actors or pairings, one sentence fics, graphics, a few words why I’m glad to have you on my flist, etc. etc.). The more “houses” to visit the more ( Read more... )

the family you choose

(No one truly understands. This is the debt she owes him.)

What makes him beloved to her is the simple truth that even on the hardest days, the worst days - and there have been so many ‘worst days’ - he can make her smile. She doesn’t know if he understands how precious that is, how rare and treasured those moments are; that she keeps them like diamonds in the palm of her hand and counts them in the darkness, each casting rainbows across her skin.

(Never real, never physical, never trinkets tucked into a pasteboard box that can be stolen and snatched from her, shaken in her face with accusations of emotions, of feeling something, spittle landing on her cheek as the faceless trainer sneers. She is a weapon, is a tool, is nothing but what they make of her - and they will make such things of her.

Iron, she learns, cannot feel.)

She loves him because he makes her smile, because he lightens her heart and brings joy to her lips - and he does so because he loves her.

Aww, I love this. How do you put so much in so few words? You have a remarkable skill for that. I loooove the rainbows line, and how nicely it contrasts against her past. Iron vs. a precious gemstone. Such a perfect comparison!

Best Halloween ever!!

Thank you so much! :D I'm miserable at long fics, so tucking everything into a drabble is something I love to do instead. I'm really glad you liked it, and hope you have a great Halloween!

It should be chilling, should be terrifying, the sight of winter outside the frosted windows (Winter Soldier, winter woman, winters of her childhood). The cold should freeze her veins, should turn her heart to ice, should call back screaming the memories of dark rooms and darker deeds and the knowledge that snow will hide the corpses even as it shows off the blood, brilliant and red as it melts the drifts around her. All these things should scar her, scare her - and yet for now, for today, ‘should’ is all the past can muster ( ... )

\O/ :D

This is really lovely - particularly this:

(each flake unique, each crystal formed by the cold breath of winter and meant to find its own way, the storm’s children free at last)

Beautiful! Thank you so much!
