So, I'm totally new to this whole LiveJournal thing and truly hoping I can figure it out. While I'm not an author I love fanfic and have recently found my fave authors LJ sites to be incredible! I don't want to be a lurker, so I created this site. Mostly its so I can comment on people's stuff and so that if they care, they can find out a little

May I recommend the hgss_digest as a way to keep up with your favorite WIPs and the grangersnape100 for their weekly drabble challenges (great reading!). The quiz_sshg is a themed quiz on our favorite duo, obviously, and it is a great way to find new stories! Also, the sshg_exchange is starting up again (it produces epic amounts of new HG/SS fiction), and the sshg_awards may be starting round three soon -- they're still deciding. Given your f-list, I take it HG/SS is one of your favorite pairings, so that's what I've kept my suggestions to. :-)
Again, welcome!

Congratulations on taking the plunge and joining LJ. I know it's tough to delurk--I only got up the courage to do it about a year ago--but I think you'll find that the rewards are worth it. Believe me, if you're reading and reviewing, you're already contributing to the fandom. :-)

As for icons, it varies. The one I'm using here is my default, and I made it myself. You can look in my profile to see where some of my others come from. In fact, I suggest that when you see an icon you really like, you check out that person's profile and see where they're finding them. They should have credited the icon maker there. There are also certain icon-making communities that you might want to browse or friend, like wicked_visions and swanboat_icons. pearle9240 does a LOT of SS/HG icons, and subvers also makes icons from time to time. You'll find a lot, once you start looking.
