It depends on what you format you use. It has a tiny bit of internal mem (like just enough for a few short videos) but I went ahead and bought an 8gb SD card for it. I'll probably end up buying a 16 or 32gb though because the 8 will only hold about 1 1/2 hours of video in 1080p and maybe 2 hours in 720p. I mean, we're talking HD videos here, so it does use up alot of mem. It can also shoot in lower settings (which actually are pretty decently clear) and those use up less storage.
I'd also recommend buying a few extra batteries (they have some on Amazon for super cheap) because it uses alot of juice if you're gonna use the facial recognition or the image stablization.
I got this one on Amazon for $116 - free shipping. I got the camera, a mini tripod, an 8gb mem card (make sure you get a class 6 card by the way), and 2 extra batteries for right at $150. Not bad.
Like I said, I will be getting a bigger SD mem card soon though.
