Rob Thomas at the Gibson Ampitheater with One Republic and Carolina Liar

So
brisrealm and I headed to the Gibson Ampitheater last night the first time for both of us.  We made it in the doors just as Carolina Liar was starting.  Chad worked the crowd and managed to get the upper deck standing and dancing to their two hits.  Best moment of their set was Show Me What I'm Looking For when the select 3000 who got to their seats for the opening bands sang save me I'm lost!  I can't seem to get the youtubes to embed so I'm just going to post the URL's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psRi1GopIuA
One of the better opening band's I've ever heard at a concert.

Next up was One Republic who I have their 1st album which is very good.  They played a lot of stuff from their new album which to quote Ryan "If you liked our first album our second album kicks our first album's ass!"  He might be right the songs they played from the new album were great.  Not on You Tube yet so I'm left with Stop and Stare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBdDORMkptg  Hopefully You Tube will update soon.  Ryan left the stage and headed into the crowd for Apologize which was really cool.

While we waited for Rob the people next to us shuffled in, I'm going to call them Chewy and the annoying girls for the remainder of this blog.  Chewy decided to have a conversation with me about One Republic when I was overwhelmed by the smell of winter green Skoal!  If you don't want to hear this rant go to the next paragraph but chewing tobacco makes me sick to my stomach.  The smell of winter green chewing tobacco literally makes me throw up in my mout a little and the idea of spitting it out whereever you are disgusts me even more.  So Chewy would be the bain of my existence for the next 2 hours.  I tried my best to avoid the smell and revelled when he decided to follow the Annoying girls back and forth as they were restless during the show.  They would leave to go get beer, drinks, popcorn, god knows what else I think they left 10 times.  Each time telling us they would situate themselves soon.  That never happened!  Maybe we should have offered them our seats so we would have been less bothered.  Anyway out came ROB THOMAS!

I love Matchbox Twenty, and I have Rob's first album and I was surprised when he said he would play for 2 hours that he had enough songs to fit in 2 hours.  I will never be a doubting "Rob Thomas" again.  He played for 2 hours some high lights for me were Streetlight Symphony,. Lonely No More, Her Diamonds, Little Wonders, Smooth  a tribute to Courtney Cox of Dancing in the Dark, and Ever The Same.   He did a song called Sundy Morning New York Blue that was not on his album but was great.  Then there was another one which he did which is sort of like a break up song which he made everyone laugh when he interjected in the middle of his own song some feelings he was having toward the person it was written about.  Mainly the word bitch.  Hilarious!

After the show Bri bought the Carolina Liar CD (I think she felt pressured by me I hope not) however the band was signing outside if you purchased the CD, so for $10 we both got a personal moment with the band.  We also had to listen as one woman kept trying to sell the CD yelling get an autographed and signed CD with purchase.  Bri said isn't autographed and signed the same thing.  Apparently not to everybody!  We waited in line and as Bri went to get her CD signed by Chad and Max I went and talked to Rickard and Johan.  Rickard introduced himself to me so I told him my name and shook his hand and then met Johan.  I told them they looked bored out there but that we loved the set.  Chad at that point thanked me and I mentioned they were the only band to get the upperdeck standing.  He went off about being nervous which I was kind of tuning him out as I was staring at Rickard (he's dreamy) and Bri was stuck telling Chad that he'll be great and headlining his own show in a few years.  Bri is so nice!  I said bye to Rickard and we walked off back to the car an "autographed and signed" CD in hand!  Good times were had!
