We've done it, guys. We've kept a ship alive through an ENTIRE SEASON of the pairing's non-interaction. We are the stubbornest people in the universe! We are like the Chicago Cubs fans of tv!
… if Diane joins F-A, and Kalinda comes with her per her promise, it's going to be way, way harder for Margulies and Panjabi not to be in a scene together. Doesn't mean it won't happen, but then at least we can laugh at the show looking completely ridiculous.
On a plot level, though, I gotta say I like the SA thing. I was wondering how they could come up with an original way to compound the Florrick marital tensions, and this seems like it.
Kalinda and Alicia were both working at LG for another 13 episodes after their last actual on-set interaction (in "Red Team Blue Team"), so the Kings already have the tricks down on how not to have them interact even then.
That said, I don't expect Alicia to be at FA much longer anyway. She'll spend the first few episodes contemplating her options, and then essentially bow out of FA to run for SA. She'll never be in the FA offices after that, and then the election will take place by the end of the fall mini-season. She wins and leaves FA for good.
In the spring it'll be Alicia as SA, with Finn working for her and them doing the same old "will they won't they" dance that Alicia and Will did, while all the marginalized supporting characters are gathered at Agos Lockhart for convenient future marginalization.
Also, it's probable that once Alicia is SA, the ballot-box thing fron this year will come back, because she'll have conflicts of interest up the wazoo.
Are you a clairvoyant, OP? Because that's exactly how I expect S6 to shakedown. The Kings have been setting up Alicia to run for office since S2 and there are those all too prevalent lofty Clinton comparisons. She'll run for SA, win and effectively be removed from Kalinda and all will be "right" with the world again. *sigh* Apologies. I'm not particularly optimistic.
I only expect it to move that fast if the Kings are getting hints that there won't be a season seven. I think we'll end up with Alicia as SA, ridiculous as it is. (I don't think it makes a jot of sense from a plot point of view--she's a defense attorney who has never prosecuted a single case, and the idea that she's suddenly qualified to be the SA in the same state in which her husband is governor is a joke.) But I think it's end game, and I don't think at all that it's going to happen in the first 11 episodes of next season. But time will tell. Good thing I don't care much one way or the other!
I don't know why but seeing kalinda make that call to cary with everybody watching made me feel physically sick to my stomach! I was impressed that they managed to have alicia looking at kalinda and saying her name in the same episode ... this is how desparate I have apparently become!!!!
Ok, I'm going to chime in on this just because I interpreted it a bit differently. I may be in the minority here, but I'm actually liking the Diane/Kalinda thing they've got going on...even if I think it's a somewhat poor substitute for the relationships that they are very clearly ignoring. It's not the bromance with Will and it's not A/K, but it IS growing on me
( ... )
Welp, I predicted both major "plot twists" -- Diane wanting to join FA (which I think would be pretty awesome) and Alicia being asked to run for SA (which I'm really not a fan of), so yay for me. But I would have been a lot happier if there'd been Kalicia. Sigh.
Alicia as SA is a terrible idea. I get that Eli is running out of options, but has she ever been a prosecutor? Like...has she ever prosecuted a single case? As far as we (the audience) know, she has not. I liked the idea of Diane running, because I would love to see her kicking criminal ass in court. But the possibility of her joining FA works for me too.
Otherwise, I was kind of neutral on this episode. I couldn't even get that worked up about Cary going to Canning. Meh. Jackie and Veronica were fun to watch, though. And I thought the screaming match between Cary and Alicia was well done (and a long time coming -- you can't be name partners at a law firm with someone and not want to kill them occasionally).

haha this is so interesting! And totally adds to the conspiracy. He asks the questions that everyone wants him to ask, they gloss over it and refuse to answer, and now we are without a post-season interview at all.
I smell JM's involvement. Get out the pitch forks!

I don't think JM was involved per se. What I *do* think is that there's clearly drama behind the scenes between Archie and JM, and the CBS people are very much invested in NOT having that get out into the world. To accomplish that, it makes more sense to give post-finale interviews to the sort of people who write for TV Guide and who will most likely toss softballs like "tell us about next season!" and less sense to give interviews to the more thoughtful, engaged interviewers who might ask direct questions like "So, it seems as though Alicia and Kalinda haven't been in a scene together in 31 episodes. Care to comment?" No matter what they'd say, it would be a much harder question to duck behind answers about bringing back the friendship quickly or slowly, since the question really has nothing whatsoever to do with that. It's in CBS's best interest to stay away from the interviewers who really *watch* the show, and I think that's exactly what they're doing.
I can't believe I forgot to mention the horribleness that was Cary and Kalinda's sex scene. I seriously needed a shower after watching it. He had such a creepy vibe during the whole thing, especially Kalinda told him to get off her and started struggling a little. He looked like he was getting off on it. WHAT THE HELL, CARY. Gross, not to mention oddly out of character IMO. Cary may have his faults, but disturbing rape undertones haven't been one of them until now. Though he has always been a bit of a control freak.
I was pretty disturbed, he came off like a slimeball. What's even more gross is that I was reading a recap afterward that was like "if you were a little turned on by in-control Cary, we won't judge you!"
Because it is super sexy when someone persists with sex while their partner is clearly saying to stop.
