Kalicia Breakfast Club 5x14: Spring Break Edition

Mar 17, 2014 11:28

Morning (or whatever time it is for you), Clubbers!  It is spring break for me, which means I actually may have time to converse with you all this week!  And it is a good thing, since this (for me) was the most enjoyable epi in awhile.

And because I needed desperately to dust off my creativity... sweetjamielee March 17 2014, 17:46:30 UTC
I wrote a little bit for the femslash porn battle. Don't get too excited, it is short and quite minimally porny. But it is better than the alternative, which is a big old fat bunch of nothing. :)

I got excited anyway. And then I genuinely enjoyed reading it.

I want more reunion fic to solve my despair.

STOP GETTING EXCITED WHEN I TELL YOU NOT TO.

Still, I am happy you liked -- I think I could have probably done a better job, but it was "due" by tonight and nothing gets done in the evening. It HAS had the effect of getting me at least temporarily more excited about the pairing again. Something about contemplating the possibilities the way you do for fic just gets you revved up about all the POTENTIAL. Probably wasted in canon, but not in my mind. :)

I'm so accustomed to getting excited by doing exactly what you tell me to -- this imperative has me quite confused.

Help?

Speaking of ficlets ... schwarmerei1 March 17 2014, 20:59:10 UTC
... this one's been sitting on my computer for 4 months since the ep aired. Originally I wrote it to practice Elsbeth because I needed to write her for Yuletide. But now, betweeen Carrie Preston talking about Elsbeth's love for Kalinda and all that "missing" of each other, it's totes canon-plausible that this happened right? RIGHT?

Finals week? In March?? What sort of strange schedule are you on? Good luck!

I wasn't sure what to make of Jackie popping up and calling Alicia a slut...a very unsubtle attempt at reminding the viewer about sexism in the workplace?

I thought apparition!Jackie was there as the punitive part of Alicia's superego -- this was a time when Alicia actually had scruples, so knowing that she was essentially flirting her way into a job would have made her feel bad/slutty/whorish whatever else. Contrast this to the Alicia who changed mid-session to something more seductive to distract Will!

Alicia not understanding how Will could hate her IS perplexing -- I guess it's hard for her to understand how personally he took it when she never quite had the level of feeling for him that he had about her? She is showing a quite spectacular lack of perspective-taking.

'Tis the strange schedule known as the quarter system. :p We have quarters that end in December, March, and June (three sets of finals, oh yay). Thanks for the good wishes!

Contrast this to the Alicia who changed mid-session to something more seductive to distract Will!Yeah, I wondered about this too, though Alicia has never really struck me as someone to be particularly ashamed of her sexuality. She's certainly never had qualms about banging Peter as a surrogate for Will/Kalinda/god knows what, at least that we've seen. Though I do think that it would have been a bit of an odd adjustment for her to go from famous husband, white picket fence, and 2.5 kids to basically using her boobs to get a job, so there's that ( ... )

Oh yes! I think you've explained the quarter system to me before. I think it never quite fit into my academia schema because it needs an extra quarter. They should be called periods, like in hockey ( ... )

Am I the only one who is sick of seeing Will's hand?
The first time it happened, I went oh god no, was the guy who gave her a job going to be a dirty shit head? Haha, no, it was just friendly Will! (But then his hand kept appearing, again and again and again....)

Yes, no spin off, they ruined Eli somehow by making him a main.

Haha, yeah, I was a little surprised (pleasantly) at Elsbeth & Kalinda's "I miss you" exchange. I bet Kalinda likes having a friend friend, although apparently SOMEBODY *coughschwarmerei1cough* has written something more between them, and I am curious enough to go have a look later!

I don't know what was with the bear though... It was funny at first, then it felt kinda awkward to me. And yes, Kalinda's face when Will told her who she was going to investigate. Yeesh!

Question though, these smartarse lawyers didn't even think to sms since the stupid political taxi tv was on full blast? Really? (Where's Kalinda when you need her to do her thing and make people go huh. Why didn't I think of that?)

Somebody counted all Will's "hands" and came up with nine. Yes, that's a lot of Will Handage!

Poor Kalinda. At least she's missed by SOMEBODY on that show. :(

Apparently the bear is a joke about anti-Semetic Elmo. Bizarre!

Hmm, this WOULD have been the time for texting. Really, it's the time for carrier pigeon, since phones are NOT SAFE, GUISE. Not the same dramatic effect for tv though, I guess!

HEY Y'ALL,

Swinging in to say hi, and that I am not dead! And also that I would TOTALLY watch an Elsbeth spinoff--and I wonder if the show would move Kalinda over the spinoff. It seems so far-fetched, AND YET.

You're alive, you're alive! *claps excitedly* Oh, how I wish the show would give us something to bring you back on a permanent basis.

Yeah, the Kalinda/Elsbeth dreamteam would have some potential. Idk though -- I'm not sure it would solve the true "Kalinda problem." It would solve the issue of her getting screentime, but (for me; can't speak for others) SO MUCH of Kalinda's character is tied up in loving Alicia that simply severing that connection probably still wouldn't work for me. Kalinda could be out investigating and boinking hot people day in and day out, and it would feel kind of empty. :(
