September 5, 2008

Last night at the Republican National Convention, John McCain used the word "fight" more than 40 times in his speech.

In the 16 years that we have served together in the Senate, I have seen John McCain fight.

I am so glad that you get it, and that there are many people out there who do get it and understand how dire this situation really is.

I'm really, really scared. What if McCain lessens or takes away SSDI? WHY hasn't the minimun wage kept up with inflation- the minimum wage in 1972 had far more buying power that it does comparatively now. Minimum wage should be at least $13 hour, to keep up with inflation. THE POOR ARE GETTING POORER AND THE RICH GETTING RICHER. McCain voted for cost of living wage increases for congressmen. OH WHAT A SURPRISE.

I hate the injustice of the world. It shouldn't be so hard for people who are poor.

while it pains me to defend a republican (haha), to be fair none of the democratic presidential candidates support gay marriage, either.

when it comes to that issue, i think they all need to have the shit shook out of 'em.

i mean, really, love is love is love.

but a politician is a politician is a politician, in my opinion.

even still, john mccain..yikes. and sarah palin? the yikesiest.

That's too bad. But still, I don't think a democratic president would spend time trying to redefine state laws in that regard, whereas I think McCain/Palin would.

True! Though Obama does support "equal legal language" - clarifying the legal lingo to make sure insurance companies can't offer different benefits for "marriage" vs. "civil union" So at least in the states which allow civil unions, they are guaranteed equal rights. It's a compromise that's become popular amongst the moderate-to-liberal crowd.

While I think it's bollocks (equal is NOT separate), it's a compromise I'm willing to work with. No wiggle room for discrimination (for now) is a good start. I just wouldn't want the "separate, but equal" to become a precedent. It's a fine line to walk.

I'm with you, love is love, and politicians are always politicians! If a politician is popular, I probably don't trust them further than I could throw them ;)
