Hey, sorry to butt in - I haven't been to France, but I hope you have a great time.
I recommend picking up the Rough Guide to France and/or the Lonely Planet version - personally I like the Rough Guides better.
Tips from French friends - there are lot of museums in Paris that are not the Louvre - you won't be able to see them all (unless that's all you do for 5 weeks), but do have a look.
Whatever you do in Paris, you must go to the Musée d'Orsay. It's located in an old train station and it has the most gorgeous (mostly impressionist) art/paintings.
Oh, and there is a Dali museum there as well. Close to Montmartre/Sacre Coeur.
