yoooooooooooo stoff at gunshots? obv going down before the end of the summer. glad to hear you got a better job. lemme figure out when i have to leave town for work, then we'll plan to visit.
"Quit Tuesday, found a new job by Friday. New employment is the polar opposite of community organizing in neighbourhoods vilified, stereotyped and exploited by, for example, the media."
didn't want to tough it out? what were you required to do that was so hard?
heh.. yeah, you're right. on the surface, it seems like i just gave up, but it was a combination of things that sealed the (no)deal for me.
1) long hours -- 11-9 mon-fri, AND 4 hours sat. 2) trying to get myself inside people's homes to talk. i felt like i was invading their personal space. 3) trying to get people to give me money to support the organization. basically, that was the point of every visit. on the one hand, it's good that the organization (acorn) takes no money from gov't or big business, but on the other hand, this makes for a somewhat shitty job, given that no matter who i'm talking to, at the end of it, i should be pushing to sign the person up as a member... which carries with it a minimum $10/month membership due.
