This has actually given me a headache...

Normally, I complain about how vegans tend to be another one of those groups that perpetually generate stereotypes. I've decided to be polite enough not to give examples.

Well, here's a rare occasion for us all. I received an article1 from CNN about the couple who starved their child to death on a raw food diet.

Here is the article in question in its entirety. )

health, veganism, food, death, news, rant

Any studies done on children being brought up vegetarian? I'm very curious to see it.

i once got sick when i was a boy, because i ate a tremendous number of roasted pumpkin seeds...the official medical diagnosis=malnutrition.

so....what does this have to do with your post? i have no idea. but i guess it means that the malnutrtion diagnosis is made easily, at the drop of a hat....there are no stringent criteria.

You know parents starve their kids every day and that doesn't make news but the moment it is some kind of alternitave diet, the press and people scream bloody murder.

That's a good point... but the baby was said to be only seven pounds. I don't have children but I'm pretty certain she should've been at least double that. Whether it was the diet or the disease that killed her, these people may not have didn't do their job as parents.

Exactly, they didn't do their job as parents, it has nothing to do with their eating ethics.

I'm still pissed that CNN has sent me NOTHING about Heather Mills McCartney.

At six months a baby is supposed to have doubled their birth weight. I can not even imagine a six month old that weighed 6 pounds. Now, I am obviously all for veganism and such, but you should by no means feed a six month old baby raw foods and wheat most of all ( ... )

OH, and it's also possible that the weakened immunse system was caused by her malnutrition. Babies build a strong immunse system when breastfed, and if she wasn't fed properly she would have had an extremely weak immune system. As an adult, I could eat a diet of crap and my immune system would never be as bad as that of an infant who isn't fed properly.

I knew I was right about the weight gain.

I agree, babies should be drinking breast milk. Pump it out if you have to. I don't know the exact circumstances of wtf they were feeding that baby; all I know is NO WAY are you doing your job as a parent if your baby is half the weight she's supposed to be.

I don't think these parents messed up because they are vegan, I think they messed up because they are fucking morons, which IS sad, because it WILL make vegans look bad. They should have focused a little more on the fact that the parents didn't know wtf they were doing and had no business having children.

That's my point exactly.
