Out of Character
Hermione Granger woke up with a start but decided to not open her eyes. With a headache that made cannon fire seemed like a summer’s breeze, the young witch tried to remember exactly what happened.
It was not necessary for Hermione to open her eyes to realize that she was naked underneath the sheet or that the soft snore that was coming from beside her wasn’t Chrookshanks dreaming about milk, mice and catnip.
She wasn’t alone.
No, she was definitely naked and naked in her bed with an unknown man, at least until she turned over and faced the person lying next to her. And boy she hoped it was a man. Oh, to wake up naked next to Ginny or worse, Luna would be much, much too awkward for her own good.
Not that it was not already awkward as the way it was. Obviously, Hermione could just open her eyes and face the imminent embarrassment, or babble some incoherent words and try to pretend that nothing had happened.
However, if there was something that Hermione hated more than anything, not that being embarrassed was such a great thing, it was not knowing something; the blank space in her brain that lacked answers.
Ignorance wasn’t a bless.
She had to remember.
It would be a mistake to misunderstand this attitude as some sort of ordinary behavior, or in more specific words, as if waking up naked with an unknown person by her side was something trivial in Hermione Granger’s life.
It would be silly person who would think such an absurd thing.
Hermione’s love life, or sex life, if you prefer a more specific nomenclature was pretty much non-existent.
Hermione Granger wasn’t a virgin anymore, and the four men she had been with: Ron, Harry, Viktor, and Oliver were important in some way, in their own way- but none of them lasted more than a couple of dates; none of them was the one.
But this wasn’t the time to think about it. Hermione needed to focus on the night before.
Ron and Padma’s wedding.
It had been a lovely ceremony; The Burrow was crowed with family and friends, all genuinely happy with the couple.
At first, the announcement of a serious relationship between Ron Weasley and Padma Patil was received with a certain disdain and disbelieve. However, the couple ended for proving to all that ‘fourth year’s incidents’ were buried in the past.
Hermione was truly happy for them, for Ron. She and he hadn’t worked out as a couple, but she wished all the good luck in the world for her best friend.

Taking another sip of her drink, Hermione sighed softly and turned her gaze to Harry and Luna.
And she laughed a little as Harry tried to not step on his wife’s foot as they danced.
Ron and Padma.
Harry and Luna.
There were times in which Hermione wondered if someday she would find her special someone. She wasn’t the kind of woman who believed the happiness only depended on marriage; neither was she consciously looking for a man.
No, but there were times in which Hermione would like to know what’s like to wake up every morning beside the love of your life; what would like to be loved, to have someone, always.
“Hermione Granger,” a familiar voice spoke from behind, causing her to break her reveries.
Hermione whirled and looked at Roger Davies. He had an easy smile on his face.
“Davies,” she greeted him with a nod.
“We work in the same Department, Hermione,” he said, “call me Roger.” He then made a puppy face. “Please?”
Unable to control her smile before such silly face, Hermione replied, “Okay...Roger.”
“See? It wasn’t hard?” He grinned at her.
“No, it wasn’t,” she replied.
“So, what are you doing here, so quiet?” Hermione noticed that besides the fact he still had the smile on his lips, a glint of concern was in his eyes. She didn’t know exactly why, but she felt touched by it.
“Thinking,” she answered after a moment. “It isn’t that my purpose in life? To think.” As soon as the words came out, Hermione realized she had been a little harsh, with no reason, however, before, she could utter an apology, Roger spoke again.
“No, it isn’t,” he said, with his bright eyes boring into hers, “it would be mine.”
Hermione raised an eyebrow. “And what you think so much about?”
“About a way to say to you that we should get to know each other a little better.”
Hermione shook her head, snorting un-lady liked. “Are you trying to seduce me, Mister Davies?”
“Maybe.”
“It wasn’t very good.”
“I know.”
“Don’t you think things would get a little embarrassing in the work?”
“Nope, don’t really care.”
“I never saw you in this way, you know?” He nodded. “But I think you are quite dashing...” Hermione looked around, and then took the final sip of her drink. “Okay, but before anything to ha- not that I am implying that something will happen- we need to thi-”
And before she could say anything else, Roger Davies kissed her in the mouth.

Roger Davies.
Suddenly all the happenings of the night before had came to her mind. It had been a wonderful night.
Some would say she had only gone to bed with someone as some sort of reaction to Ron’s wedding; perhaps it was truth. Hermione knew that the fact that Ron (same as it happen with Harry) getting married had touched her in a way she couldn’t quite understand.
But she didn’t want to think as the last night as some kind of last resort; or a consequence of the emotions of the day.
Hermione knew she could just open her eyes and face Roger, saying that what happened had been a mistake. She wasn’t in love with him, or anything on that level.
And Hermione always believed co-workers shouldn’t be in a romantic relationship.
What if they break up?
Yes, after analyzing all the options it would be better to stop whatever it was before it even began.
With a soft sigh, Hermione opened her eyes and turned around.
“’Morning.” Roger Davies was with his eyes opened, gazing intensely at her.
Just when she finished all her considerations, she realized that perhaps the logical side couldn’t always be right.
And then, Hermione remembered a phrase she had always thought quite interesting. Something, that she had never perceived herself saying it; something out of character.
Therefore, leaning towards Roger, Hermione Granger whispered in a quiet tone,
“I love sex in the morning.”
