SO THIS IS JUST FOR CAL, REALLY. And my reference too. Possibly Jan and Char's?? But in accordance with the Year in Review event, it's actually a Happy Birthday, Matthew event. It's just posing as a huge party for everyone else so it doesn't look like Saya's being insanely sappy, ssshhhh.
.... let's do this Fire Emblem-style.
PROLOGUE: Oh Sweet Victory
Upon waking, Matthew will receive a text and it will read as follows:
Happy Birthday! ... and I guess Happy Anniversary too!
Don't be a stranger today. Come by the apartment. :D
... then a grand total of five minutes later-
And Happy Valentine's Day~!
Now you may have mentioned something odd with those texts. Yes. There was not a single mention of milk. That would be a Point of Interest.
OBJECTIVE: REACH SAYA'S APARTMENT.
But then Matthew should scurry on over to the apartment 'cause well, why not, right? Maybe Saya's letting him off the hook since it's his birthday! Who really knows? But well, what greets him isn't going to be a flying tackle hug or an Attack Pillow. Instead, sitting there in the kitchen will be a Gingerbread Pirate Ship, complete with the gingerbread pirates placed as strategically as Saya could manage. (They were a complete mess the night before but she got bored and couldn't sleep like a kid before a field trip and arranged them for him.)
Then on a napkin, there will be a very messy note but distinctly in her hand-writing.
Happy birthday to one jerk of a thief
who to this day hasn't turned a new leaf.
But I challenge him to this game
because I trust him he's a treasure hunter all the same.
Hurry up now because you're pressed for time.
It'd fit for you to return to the scene of the crime.
... I actually failed here, Jan. :|;; Forgot to mention that Saya would want Train to wait at the Plaza a;sldkjfasdf. SORRY. JUST A MINOR DETAIL? ;; FORGIVE ME.
CHAPTER 1: Delivering More than Bad Luck
OBJECTIVE: Reach
Lamufao Plaza.
Saya would trust Matthew to know what she's talking about. There are few crimes of note that he's actually committed and only one that she actually chased him down for. Considering that she never wants him to return to the Church? Yeah. She thought that hint was obvious.
Then here is where our protagonist Matthew should run into Train. Saya's directions for Train were simple. Hand Matthew a bag of rice crackers and then "push him towards Lamufao".
... it's really up to the Black Cat whether or not he wants to take that literally.
MATTHEW gained ONE (1) VULNERARY BAG OF RICE CRACKERS.
CHAPTER 2: A STICKY SITUATION (HAHA)
Remniscent of a few months back, Lamufao itself has been covered in sticky notes. They're really just nonsensical little things, perhaps a few were even saved from the last sticky note war and reapplied. Most of them aren't going to make any sense and might actually just be greetings for other Vatheon-goers and maybe a few of them even added their own by the time Matty got there!
OBJECTIVE: FIND SAYA'S HINT.
... but then there'll be one sticky note standing out.
It's a miracle the cat didn't forget!
But you're not out of the woods yet.
Though I guess that's no problem for a spy-
think the treasure hunter should have a try?
Amidst creaky floorboards, we shall see
exactly which you were meant to be!
The only thing that should have this sticky note stand out in comparison to the others is that while there are a few wishing other's a happy Valentine's Day, they're all written in red with pink hearts. This? Written in black with red hearts. ♥♥♥
CHAPTER 3: A ThiefSpyActorCulinaryExpertThing's Life For Me
As promised, Saya brought you back to the pirate ship now that it's been restocked with treasure, Matty! Even though she's sadly not in attendance for it by the time you get here. Nonetheless, there's a bunch of treasure to be found!
OBJECTIVE: FIND THE TREASURE WITH THE NEXT HINT.
Handwaving the actual process- he'll eventually come across a chest that's a bit different from the others. The one that's marking this one apart is that there was a cloth draped over it. Upon closer inspection, the cloth is identical to the one Saya always tosses to Matthew when he sleeps on the couch. Inside, there'll be a few shinies in there- basically she took the things from the marketplace with the most jewels and tossed it in the chest. So there'll be necklaces and chocolate gold coins and everything to make it look like a real treasure.
But that was just the top layer.
Underneath, he'll find nothing but a bushel of apples. Hee. ♥
And another hint!
An apple a day keeps the doctor away~
Though I wonder if there's a remedy for hairs turned gray?
'cause I knkow one boy who's aging fast.
Shouldn't you visit him now that it's been one year past?
CHAPTER 4: Meeting the Failderp
OBJECTIVE: LOCATE BILLY AND SPEAK WITH HIM.
Billy's instructions were simple too! Saya entrusted him with a new dagger to give to Matthew. It's probably the most useful thing he'll get from her all day. Also to point him in the direction of "the biggest obstacle after the zombie mermaids".
That would be Naoya.
... EASIEST CHAPTER SO FAR, HUH?
CHAPTER 5: Like Divorcing the Frying Pan and Marrying the Fire
So I got a little silly on this chapter title. So sue me!
Again, another easy chapter. Just fetch missions at this point, but Saya wanted Matthew to see everyone close to them today. He gets more greetings if she sets it up~
But this time the prizes are dinky. What, did you think you'll be getting a dagger every time, Matty? Nah. This time it's just a teddybear keychain and a pocket flashlight.
... also, the next hint! :D
Breaking the rhyme for just some time (or maybe not!)
You know what he reminds me of? A squishy marshmallow. Don't laugh! He'll get suspicious~ But it's like he tries to be s otough! Though you have that in common. Why don't you head to the place where you finally dropped the act with me a little? Treat yourself to something yummy too.
CHAPTER 6: Mockery, She Wrote
OBJECTIVE: DECODE THE HIDDEN MESSAGE
This is where Matthew would have to shuffle over to
the restaraunt where they had the little talk about Leila. Yes, she remembered where that was. It was pretty important to her too, you know.
But you'd hardly recognize the place now, seeing as she sweet-talked the owners into letting her set up a buffet line, full of food. However the table they sat at that night is actually marked RESERVED. However it looks like they've already been served and they have one of those big silver dish things with the covering on top. Should Matthew remove the covering, he'll find... well. A bunch of drawings in whipped cream on top of a large cookie. The pictures include cotton candy, caramel apples, a bag of popcorn, a largely unproportional teddybear, and... what looks to be a music box? The lines jotting out from it would make you think that it's important, huh?
CHAPTER 7: In Which Saya's Mean
OBJECTIVE: FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OF THE MYSTERIOUS DRAWING.
Understand that Saya normally doesn't stand for cheating. But for nostalgia's sake, the exact same booth that was rigged before that awarded her the giant teddybeary named Cho... she rigged again. However the prizes look rather small. Consolation prizes and if you actually manage to win? A small music box! But she doesn't trust that anyone will care enough to win when there are bigger prizes out there.
However Matthew's instructions were to go to the carnival, enjoy himself a little, and then go to where he won the giant teddybear, and then win again.
Inside the music box however...
There will be just another sticky note.
A thief should really double-check his work.
CHAPTER 8: Burn from the Past
OBJECTIVE: LOCATE THE FINAL HINT.
Once Matthew scurried off somewhere in Chapter 5 or so... Saya went back to the coral after she made sure her original sticky note was gone. She placed just one more on the Coral. One that she knows he'll understand if he reads it.
WARNING! Prone to burning cats. smacked right onto the coral.
... and then on the back?
Remember where we first met?
FINAL CHAPTER: At the End of The Day
OBJECTIVE: LOCATE THE ORIGINAL PLACE OF MEETING.
... yeah, it's not "Locate Saya".
Because to be really honest?
Saya doesn't remember where they first met. That first rooftop that she showed up on? How do you expect her to remember the exact one? It was so long ago. So if he expects her to be there when he gets there... she won't be.
Maybe she'll show up eventually, if he's patient. It would be very much her style to appear with a skip in her step and a smile in her face, greeting him a happy birthday as if she didn't spend the last few weeks setting this up.
