OMFG! All Elle can talk about is buying a car and getting her license. She is driving me nuts! She wanted to cash her paycheck today so I decided to let her drive to the bank, less than a mile and a half. As we leave the house she is asking me when she can go take her test, it's been the 6 months, I tell her I don't know that she is ready, I get the usual, oh come on mom's, yadda. I tell her to drive to the bank. She tells me to watch, she'll show me what a good driver she is. Ok, we'll see.
So she starts pulling out of our driveway. Now you have to know we live on a street with 4 houses yes only 4. She doesn't look and almost gets hit by a car coming up our street! pulling out of our driveway. I should have taken it as a sign. She pulls back in the driveway a bit and lets the other driver pass, says "I really am a good driver, I just didn't look." "Well you've gotta look, even pulling out of the driveway Elizabeth!" So we go down the street and she pulls out onto the highway ok. It's not a major highway, not very busy, more like a four lane road (we live in a small town). So we head toward the bank. We pull down George St. She decides she doesn't want to wait for the light at 11E and turns down a side street, ok, fine. She blows the stop sign at the end of the street and almost hits a red car and would have had I not yelled at her to stop. And yes I yelled. "Elizabeth stop." The other car did not have a stop sign and was not stopping and as soon as I realized she was blowing the stop sign without looking I said Stop, Elizabeth stop! This was 1.2 miles from my house. So in driving less than 1.5 miles she almost wrecks the car twice! The car I have owned for less than 3 weeks! The only car I own! And she wants me to let her get her license. And the whole time she keeps insisting, "I'm a good driver." I felt like I was in
Rainman." I just wanted to call her Raymond.
The entire car ride she had been insisting what a good driver she was and that she wanted to take her driving test before the next Sundown in the City so she could drive to it- NEVER going to happen, because even if she had had her license I still wouldn't let her take my car into downtown Knoxville traffic at night during one of these events. I told her I didn't think she was ready to take her test and that she was not experienced enough. I told her she would have to drive with her father some and if he said she was ready she could go for her driving test. I trust him as a driver more than anyone else. He has only ever been in one accident and that one wasn't his fault and has never gotten a ticket in his life.
