For the most part, I didn't really get the feeling the show was trying to ship Pete/Myka (aside from the "passing thought", like you said). I thought it was still more platonic love than anything, though I'm also not sure if they really meant it to be romantic love. I thought this was going to be one of those shows where the male and female leads didn't get together - so I hope that will still hold true.
Re: the plot - I think it's getting a little much, with Artie's constant (exaggerated, imo) fear that Claudia's going to kill him. He should be afraid, yes, but I really dislike the flashbacks (flashforwards?) they keep on showing.
I hope it *isn't* trying to ship them. It's just, I don't trust shows with their leads -- look what happened with Fringe! So I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into it or maybe their execution lacked a little. Overall I was just confused.
I agree that Artie's exaggerated fear is a little much, but the Claudia and Steve plot is something I've really grown invested in. Their connection -- it's a trope I love in fiction, and I love that they're BFFEs.
