Feb 09, 2011 10:40

Because I'm somewhat lazy, I'm just reposting my initial thoughts that I put up in Fail Forum. Then I'd probably add some new thoughts since I posted last night.
coz i'm all over fandom right now... )

your insights are very nice. I never did think that Chuck's s1 Nate but it seems right because (maybe) the show will take it there where DB will have a one night like CB and then the whole C finding out (kind of like Nate) and stuffs. Honestly, this episode was a mess. There's no discontinuity anywhere, except for D being in love with S and Nate's still oblivious and easily manipulated. Lol.

i don't want a one night stand. i hoping that Blair doesn't do a rinse and repeat of Victrola with Dan. I want her to have something real, and I know that so many people don't like the idea of Dan and Blair really going there, they're ok with them just as an interlude until some long-term guest star comes in to be the anti-Chuck/anti-Serena because nobody likes the complications that will arise. i know a lot of fans still think that ChAir is epic and you don't get over epic. I'm hoping that DAir truly dares to be a new trope namer, about being the one that lasts. Something like "it doesn't matter how many came before, being the last pair standing is what counts because they are forever" or something like that. i think all shows of this type are supposed to give us a new arc phrase or watchword or whatever, and i don't want this show to sign off with "3 words, 8 letters". i wish that i wasn't so delusional about this, but of course end game is end game.

I'm with you on the whole one night stand thing. I think that DB has been greatly built up so far and it'd be such a tragic thing if they were to have a one night stand but given the track record that is this show, I don't see anything otherwise. I mean, either they do one night stand or they might have an amazing relationship for an episode or two before the whole thing go to hell (look at the whole NB debacle in s2) and I NEVER once thought CB was epic. I still don't understand why people still think they're epic given what has happened to their relationship and how their relationship was. They had chemistry. I'll give them that but epic?

the thing is, i get why some fans don't want to buy in DAir because of Derena, and how complicated it would get. Keeping to the original characters and just trying to make them work by having them grow seems like a such a simpler solution. The thing is, I don't buy Derena either and never did. Ultimately, it comes down to balance - the story that the showrunners want to say vs. the story that the most rabid parts of the fandom want to happen. that's what endgame will be. i think i'm just this affected by this because i just want my ship to be on the winning side of things, instead of just another Zutara or doomed ship.

Yeah, I never thought about the pattern Serena held. I guess I don't always look at her character. But I easily believe it's some syndrome/pattern she's repeating for herself. Ben isn't part of her world yet. And now that Dan is, she's turned off by that.

I kinda miss when Chuck and Blair were friends. I'd give anything to have that back. Chair...ugh...after what's happened between them, it would be cruel to throw them back together. Unfair to her.

i know that others watch for the shipping. originally i just watched for the guilty pleasure of it. i just wanted to know where my veronica mars went. then Blair became interesting. I was never into Serena, but as the seasons passed I started to get her a bit more though I never actually got behind the Derena train. ChAir I did get, because I saw Blair as more of a "sympathetic evil queen". now, shes sympathetic queen to me, so i cannot get behind ChAir anymore. oh she's still a schemer and plotter and destroyer of worlds in my book, but at least she knows she can use her powers for good now ( ... )

the thing is, Dan and Blair are the type of people/characters that would carry a torch around for years. I just wish I don't have to see it onscreen, but Blair carrying ChAir around is in-character. The thing is, when they let go, they are the kind of characters also that truly let go. So I'm just waiting around for that to happen. I just want them to realize that they are each other's number 3, and the third time is the charm.

Punctuate that with Serena saying she met Ben before Dan, makes you think that maybe the reason S was willing to give D that chance in that pilot long ago was that she was projecting Ben onto Dan.

I really like this, because while Dan clearly loved the idea of Serena before he ever spoke to her, it never occurred to me that Serena might have loved the idea of Dan first and foremost! And part of the appeal of a Dan/Blair 'ship is how any romance between them has to be about each other and not some old idea of each other, as they've never liked the idea of each other. :)

On the other hand, I think Ben is a father figure for Serena, so if she was looking for a new Ben once she left boarding-school and returned to Constance, you'd think she'd get involved with someone older than her and Dan, ya know?

I really like your point about the storytellers becoming The Story, too.

...SPOILER WARNING FOR THE UNSPOILED READER...

we know that DAir isn't hooking up in the same way.We do?! I thought I was spoiled, but the only indication I read ( ... )

technically she did get involved with men/boys older than Dan. Carter is an upperclassman. Then there was Aaron. Then there was Tripp. Then there was Colin. All of them older men.

and when i say hookup i meant smexing. I really don't think there's going to be any smexxing this season. I'm going by what Ausellio says and the fact that the Prince is coming.
