Fandom: Gossip Girl - The Damien Darko reaction

So instead of writing/finishing fic, I'm doing this. Because I have to get things off my chest apparently.

Shipper Glasses off... )

fandom: gossip girl, pairing: dan/blair, speculation

I personally feel the story is not done yet, and will carry through in some capacity for the next few episodes. I think they will at least kiss, but I'm going to see it as them then not pursuing feelings any further as to not tarnish their respective relationships. They feel it's a place they can't go to, so they transition out of their pending relationship into another relationship.

I don't see Louis as being a major threat. I kind see him as the college equivalent of Nate in respect to Blair.

As for a wedding, I can't imagine it would be Chuck and Blair. That seems better suited for end of the series rather than the end of a season.

Who ever it is, I get a marriage of convenience vibe or a wedding for the sake of some greater cause. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

i agree that the story is not done yet. the rule of promos say that some serious significant stuff will not be in the actual official promo so i have a feeling that there will be Dan, doing something either dastardly or having a talk with Blair after her scheme blows up in her face again. We know it always happens, why deny the inevitable? I would tend to agree that they will eventually realize something is there, but one or both of them will back off because they feel that the other has "unfinished business". But that's season 5 for you.

Louis is the new S2Nate. I know other fans have stated it is Dan, but I really don't think so.

The interesting parallel for me I took from the whole Dan-buying-Blair-lunch scene. Dan knew that Blair was a food snob and wouldn't touch the regular commissary food, as opposed to Prince Louis, who had actually bought the whole kebabs-for-the-people routine that Blair was doing to impress him. Blair was presenting a fantasy version of herself to Louis, and he in turn pretty much puts her in a fantasy of his own making.

Hi! I'm here from the D/B comm, just to say that I didn't make that connection and I really like it. Neat.

The prince vs. pauper story makes perfect sense in terms of Dan and Louis, only I can't see where Chuck fits into the picture. And as much as I'd like it if Chuck and Blair were done 'til next season... it's hard to believe! Would the writers really have two guys vying for Blair over a stretch of episodes, and leave Chuck out of it? That's the part I have difficulty with.

the question is whether Dan WILL vie for Blair, you know? right now it's just build up and no realization of feelings yet.

Heee, yes, I could be miles off. The spoilers are hopelessly uninformative! Good for the producers, I guess, they have things sealed up tight.

*butting in* (hello)

only I can't see where Chuck fits into the picture.I don't think Chuck really fits into the picture THIS season. Gossip Girl refers to him as Blair's "Dark Prince" in 4x09, and when Blair says "not a king yet but maybe someday," the show is clearly talking about Chuck because they named him after Prince Hal who becomes King Henry in the season premiere. They also put Blair and Chuck on individual paths to assuming their respective thrones this season. Bass Industries CEO = King of the UES. Powerful Woman is basically code for Queen, which Blair hasn't been since S2 and doesn't want to be just because she's on Chuck's arm. This all ties into the chess metaphor from last season (the real reason Blair had that NYU chess club flyer on her door all year) where Chuck and Blair were the black king and black queen (and Blair said it was the queen's duty to protect her king, but he sacrificed her to stay king, and then he replaced her with the other black queen). So the show is really pushing the idea that Chuck and ( ... )

Wouldn't it be great if she and Dan's friendship became legit and then Louis and Chuck were fighting over Blair and then in the end she shows up at Dan's loft, then kisses him. fade out. season over. Fangirls dead everywhere?

I love, love your idea. Hopefully the writers will get on that asap.

I think the wedding will be Lily. maybe that will give rufus some depth when he's pushed into despair and whatnot. Is it bad that I really loath his character so far? smh.

i am prayer dancing that the writers don't parallel dan to his dad anymore. that whole serena/dan-lily/rufus thing has to stop. because rufus was never an UES until much later, so he and dan are NOT THE SAME writers.

The weirdest thing is that when I was rewatching some of the first season a couple weeks ago, I got major Blair/Dan vibes off of Rufus/Lily. (She accuses him of using his kid to stalk her, says she wants to get out of Brooklyn before someone throws her down and tattoos her, says he's a washed up rocker with a crappy little so-called art gallery, and Rufus is mean right back.) It's like they're an epic-failed version of Blair/Dan where Blair marries into her powerful womanhood over and over and over, where Blair marries Chuck Bass, where Dan's literary aspirations never amount to anything, etc.

Anne calling Lily a mean girl and Lily's line about not wanting to hurt someone (and Rufus saying he's not sure he believes her) also reminded me a lot of Blair and the scene from 4x04 where she tries to tell Chuck she didn't mean to hurt him and he says of course she did.

Well-spotted on the parallels between CR and DB. And yeah, I'd have to agree that Chuck had no growth since he's planning to make Raina fall for him so Mr. Thorpe will spare his company... which, when did Chuck get so stupid?

although the insole label should have given that away Blair

Not to mention the lack of red soles...

I was really impressed with Dan for all the reasons you said (even his sabotaging Blair didn't really negatively register for me since I completely understood why he did it. I love that he would have beaten Blair in a clean fight, that he's coming into his Insider label, that he's sucking up to the boss, using his UES connections, and especially that he was Blair's biggest competition at W. I definitely feel like Dan and Blair are on a pretty level playing field after these past couple episodes.

chuck has been stupid for a while. like since season 3. he only smartens up when he's with blair.

agree that Louis would have cottoned on to Blair on the kebab thing.

I am prayer circling for the 3-way guy thing. Yup, it's all about the parallels and bookending for this show. the thing about Dan, and when he doubted her and sabotaged her, well, for me it was also him doubting himself. he listened to what other people again telling him what to feel instead of what he knew in his gut about Blair at that point. he knew what he had with Blair was real, but compounding his doubt about his feelings and his read of the situation is that he LISTENS to other people who don't know him. like Vanessa's mom for example - leading to that whole friends with benefits thing. I'm thinking that Dan will sabotage whatever he and Blair will have going because of what other people say - much to his detriment.
