Am I the only person in the universe who has a self absorbed, selfish, neurotic, control freak for a mother? Seriously, my mother is not a happy person, and she will do any and every thing in her power to make those around her just as unhappy. Her day is not complete unless she makes a min of 2 people miserable. I am a 30 year old who has a husband

I completely understand that. My mother has similar issues, but I've come to see that those are her problems and she should deal with them on her own. Her being a blood-relation doesn't give her any special rights in my life, nor is it carved in stone that it obligates me to anything. I cut my mother out of my life, and it was one of the smartest and healthiest things I've ever done. There's no room to breathe or grow if a toxic person is all over your psyche like a cancer. So - kudos and good for you! :)

Thanks for letting me know I am not alone. This is something that has been a long time coming. My husband told me I need to get my emotional self healthy, but I can't do that if I continue letting her eat at me like a cancer.

Awww! *blushes* - thanks! :D I'm constantly amazed and awed by the acceptance and friendship I find here on LJ, so it's one of the (very) few places I can really be myself. :)
