Are you smarter than a 5th Grader?

I saw this show last night because the online TV guide said that Psych was on in that timeslot. Morbid fascination soon took over. This has got to be the worst advertising for the USA around. A more apt name would be "are you dumber than a pile of rocks?". Do they pick dumb people so everybody doesn't win? Is this really giving the international ( Read more... )

I've watched that show a few times, and I'm almost embarrassed by the stupidity of some people. The one episode, the question was "how many equal sides does an isosceles triangle have?" and they were debating between 1 & 2. Like really, how can you have ONE equal side???

I cannot stand watching it half the time. It's so painful.

So you CAN stand to watch it the other half of the time? Shame on you! ;)

Oh man, Jeff Foxworthy looks so pissed off at the contestants sometimes. If they're all like that I can understand why! Why does he keep doing that gig?

yes, but see, they wouldn't let you on "are you smarter than a 5th grader" because you're too smart.

despite never having watched the show, I'm still ashamed of the american people.

I highly suspect things like that are rigged, which is really terrible. It kind of reminds me of casinos and card counting. The basic premise of casinos is that your odds of winning consistently are terrible. If you use your brain to even up the odds they kick you out. Say what? I like what our local casino has done. They put in continuous shuffling machines. That way card counting is useless. Now that's fixing the problem, not just lashing out at players.

PS - I appreciate your shame. ;)

They can't have the smart ones on there; they'll answer the questions too quickly and the show would get boring, wouldn't be good for ratings.
Better to have the thickest of the thick on there.
Sounds like my sort of programme to watch, too ;)
