What are your feelings about the Avatar movie coming out next year? I just saw a preview and thought of you. My husband wants Zuko to be played by his voice actor. He should still be young enough, yeah?

You know, I'm not sure how old Dante Basco is. I think he could pass for an older teenager, but I'm not sure. The actor they did get is actually a proper actor, I know, and not a generic big name pretty-boy like they were originally going with (oh Jesse McCartney, you are so attractive and so entirely not Zuko).

Of course, the actor they got is also not Japanese--it's Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire. :/ And in fact none of the actors are any kind of Asian or Inuit--from what I've seen, everyone cast is either white or Indian. The Fire Nation seems to have become India and the Water Tribe seems to have become something kind of Viking-esque.

The visuals I've seen look beautiful, and I love M. Night Shyamalan's movies. Even Lady In The Water has a special little place in my heart, despite pretty much being crap. I hate, hate, hate whitewashing and playing willy-nilly hell with races and cultures, especially in a series that did such a good job constructing theirs. So I'm going to go see it, but I'm not going to be

Eh, I was worried about that when I saw the trailer. I guess it could still be entertaining, but not sure where M. Night Shyamalan came from...it sort of appeared from no where.
