Anyone read The Nightwatch? (As in, Sarah Waters, not Terry Pratchett). Any good? No, wrong question, I know it'll be good, I suppose I'm just wondering whether I'll enjoy it. I've owned it ever since it came out, but despite picking it up a couple of times the first few pages have thus far never grabbed me enough to keep reading. And now they've ( Read more... )

I recall it being upsetting, and I can't remember if it has a happy ending! What a useless comment ;__;

Haha thank you anyway! You are fuelling my aprehensions about it!

it's narrated backwards (the first section is post-war and it eventually goes back into the Blitz), so it goes from more miserable to less miserable, but since you know where the characters are going to end up that doesn't really help much. there's a bit of hope for one or two characters in the post-war section, but not much, as I recall.

Oh dear! Maybe I'll give it a miss...I am shallow and prefer happy endings!

I really enjoyed it, but then I've loved all of Sarah Waters' books. And I'm a sucker for WW2 settings.

Well, I liked the others...(not read Little Stranger yet). But then the others had happy endings. Sort of. Maybe I'll watch it first and then decide after all!

Not so happy ending. Sorry!

If I kill Rhys, would mind killing Gwen? I want Andy to get a bigger part...

1 for one would be very upset if they kill Rhys (which may have something to do with the fact that I'm mildly in love with the lovely Kai Owen). I would, however, probably cheer if somebody killed Gwen... (which is probably just as unpopular an opinion as yours)

Haven't read Nightwatch but I'm always on the lookout for new books so if you read it, I'd be interested in your opinions.

Hee, I'm sure Kai Owen is lovely, but I can't stand the character. Maybe rocks will fall on both of them...
