Yes, I know it takes me forever to update but I have to blame it on so many good pictures, I had a hard time paring them down. but don't worry, I made slide shows so it doesn't take forever to see them. ( if you're interested )
It's always great to see the city through they eyes of a visitor. So many details I'm sure I've seen many time, yet never paid much attention to. =) Not sure if you'll find a Finnish number plate, they're mostly selling those you mentioned with the names and birth dates of children to put on prams. They were very popular last summer, and you saw them everywhere. Love your Tavastia piccies, too. Oh! And I've wanted to check out Dante's for a while. It's relatively new, I think they opened about a year ago. What's it like, and what age group is the clientele?
Dante's is a fun place, not huge but big enough. the crowd seemed a mix of all ages and the drink prices were really good, I think I paid 3,50 for lonkero.
So you finally tried lonkero (gin long drink)! Welcome to the fold. We have been nursing our six-packs of it since we got back in August.
I'm planning on going back to Finland in June w/ Antti for a wedding (not ours ;)... wonder if any good gigs will be going on? We're hoping that a Finnish band comes round here to D.C. sometime before then, esp. with rumors about a new album from the Eyes.
Pictures look great, as always. That one guy in your pictures with the dark hair reminds me of Ville a bit. Looks like a swell time was had!
Ahhh. Your post has gotten me all pining for Finland now. The bars, the music, the mood, the drinks, the kanahampurilainen from Hesburger! Mmm!
lonkero is wonderful, why didn't I think of bringing some home? oh well, I guess I'll just have to go back!
I have tenative plans for summer of 2010 when my friend Jyrki wants to show me Lapland. sounds like fun, I love long drives, only problem is I fall asleep easily *snore*
we really did have a good time, I hope you'll get to experience it next year! Jyrki and I spent New Years Day at the zoo, it was freezing but so nice. pics coming right up!
I can finally see the slideshow! The pics wouldn't show up on my work computer. I have an evil virus at home, I'm on the computer in my bedroom which is really slow, but at least things load eventually. Great pics and some beautiful Finnish men ;)
So, I'm catching up, finally, with everyone's posts.
