Wow that's really kind of you, considering you're a dog person. Feline Aids is manageble and cats have been known to live years with it as long as they're the only cat in the house, but combined with leukemia, that's tragic. You're giving him a good happy life and his Catio looks amazing. Cats are so appreciative of TLC. He looks very contented and that's all a cat can ask for...that, being well fed and scratched behind the ears

Thank you I've been reading about that and you are totally right about viruses and other sanitary measures. I will concentrate on this one first and do the necessary arrangements for the next one within a reasonable period of cleaning up. I'm sure Dante will enjoy his space and let's hope he has a comfortable life. I'll keep you posted about his progress and adaptation to this luxurious life.
Every pet, well or not, should have such a great life full of affection. They give us such unconditional love, and they deserve it too. Dante looks like he's getting his at last. :D Purrrrrrr.
You're a good woman :) He already looks very comfortable in his Catio. I'm sorry that his time will be shorter than normal, but he'll love you and there's nothing better than a cat purring in pleasure when you give him some pets. Cats do become attached to you and vice versa--we've had both dogs and cats and they've all been special.
I don' t know if he will be around enough to get attached but at least, he will have everything he needs till the last moment. The name was my sister's idea, since she's Literature professor, she loves poets. Thank you for your words, I'm the one with love at first sight and squeezing my heart for this pretty boy.
Good for you and for this handsome gato. I think you'll find that he will be a dedicated and loyal friend to you, as cats generally accept these kindnesses with a generous amount of love in return. You're on a wonderful journey, and I assure you there is nothing quite the same as the company of a cat.
thank you for your words. I wish we could've received him earlier. He's now in the last stages of his illness and probably died before the week ends. It was just one last minute thing to offer him our place. There is no time for bonding, but at least he's enjoying the sunshine, safe and comfy.
Well, Dante did not last long enough. He was way too sick. Amazingly enough, the same night, another cat came by and now he's enjoying the bachelor's flat. We called him Ishmael (my sister is reading Moby Dick with her students this semester.) He is calm enough to accept petting when he asks for. Eats well, and enjoys sitting outside to see the birds he can't hunt. We like him but treat him with respect. He is more like a tenant than a pet. It's true, you get attach and invest emotions in an animal that has to die before you. It's hard and painful, but in the meantime, they have food, a warm house and lots of love. We are the providers of a better life.
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your first cat. :( Please know that you gave him a good last home and all of the love and care that he needed. As somebody else on here suggested, make sure you clean THOROUGHLY everywhere he was so that Ishmael doesn't get sick. I would love to see a picture of him! :D We usually don't let out cats outside, but since half of our cats are feral cats, that's almost impossible because they're master escape artists when we let the dogs out to do their business. [Though that was bad too because our cat Indy, who we found on our way home from our annual family vacation to Florida and named him Indiana after the state we found him in, was gone for a whole three or four days last summer. He really upset my mom because we thought we had lost him for good.] Skye, mischievous as she is and sometimes naughty [she likes to tip over garbages, but then the person we adopted her from said she was found around a dumpster], I love her to pieces.
