Susan was relaxing on her balcony, reading a book-- or trying to. Mostly she was thinking about the rings, and Uncle Diggory's notes.

Peter didn't even notice Susan on the balcony, so intent was he on getting inside to knock on her door after leaving the Preserve.

He gave three hard knocks on the door. "Be home, be home, be home," he muttered under his breath before pushing the hair out of his eyes and trying to compose himself.

"Peter! What a nice surprise," Susan said, opening the door to him. Then she frowned as she got a look at his expression. "What's wrong?"

"Su," Peter said, collecting himself enouch to smile slightly at her but not trusting himself to answer her question immediately. "I'm glad you're home."

Susan stepped aside to usher him in, and said, "I was just catching up on some reading. Are you all right? You looked quite pale, for a moment there."
