Not impressed

I have spent an inordinate amount of time over the last week on the phone to the council.  Why?  Because I would rather like to exercise my democratic right to make an informed choice when I vote in the upcoming General Election.  And I didn't have a polling card when they had clearly been delivered elsewhere.  And last time I lived in this ( Read more... )

yeah. I'm still half expecting to turn up at the polling station and discover that either I really *am* in Oxford West, and have to trek off somewhere else, and/or that there's also a local election (college pigeon holes have 2 polling cards) which I know nothing about.
This really annoys me. I like to be an informed voter and read people's manifesto's / personal statements etc. Which is blooming difficult if I don't know what I'm even looking for.

However, my cunning internet searching merely revealed that my building is very close to the constituency boundary, and that that boundary has/is being/will be changed.
life gets amusing at times , doesn't it :D
Lady: "Oh. OK." "I wonder what that means?"
I stared at this for a bit, I took the looks me up literally but that can't be what you implied since you were on phone 8-)
I hope you end up making an informed choice :)

Welcome to Oxford East.
Based on the leaflets I've received so far, your vote will be gratefully accepted by either:
  • The sitting MP who has managed to find a whole 6 constituents to write statements of support. Wow. (Lab)
  • An orangy/yellow diamond with a beard attached whose election leaflet can be summerised as: "I'm not the current guy - and that makes me the only alternative." This particular flyer had a creepy undertone of: "Vote for me or the lentils get it". (Lib Dem)
  • NO ONE ELSE - all other candidates and parties have vanished, current whereabouts, unknown.

That does all sound remarkably crap, but I'm glad you got there in the end.

When I read this post last night, I thought "Hmm, I ought to dig out my polling card - I'm sure it's around here somewhere." It then came through the post box this morning. So, that might explain why the people in Oxford weren't too fussed about yours not turning up, if they all get "dribbled out". However, they really should have told you the correct constituency!

I still think they should be more bothered about the cards not turning up last time...
