A ballad of unending technical upheaval

So I was submitting this paper to the EMBC conference in Vancouver.  Suffice it to say that the preparation of this paper has typically involved late nights, followed by long waits for my supervisor.  Then panicked rewrites of the introduction requiring removal of references to keep within the page limit.  And so on and so forth, nothing unusual ( Read more... )

Oh dear. I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get access to the IEEE Members Digital Library function, and then when my bank cancelled my credit card (it was eaten by a rogue train ticket machine), the IEEE suspended my membership and I had to jump through a whole load more to get it reinstated.

And their membership website really is totally useless. It feels like it was written in Java circa 1998, which it probably was.

Quite. On the upside, it means that the other person from my group, who started writing his paper today (deadline is about 6am tuesday), won't have to go through as much pain because I've told him how to do it.
