Don't ask me why I volunteered. I don't know. I'm not a runner, never have been. But I did. And I'm still alive. What did I do? Run third leg in a mixed departmental team in Teddy Hall Relays.
Eep! That does look a bit daunting; when I was at my peak (as an undergrad), I had trouble running flat-out for more than 2.5 miles, so I wouldn't even want to attempt a course like that now.
Bad thing: momentarily considering jumping in the river so I wouldn't have to run the rest of the way Bad thing: one of the marshals shouting "Pain is weakness leaving the body" when I was getting really quite worried about the amount of chest pain
I'd vote for pushing the marshal into the river :)
Anyway, I'm glad you made it through in one piece, and I think it's an impressive achievement whatever your time was.
Yeah, that would have been a good idea. However, it would have expended significant amounts of energy that I didn't have. And possibly disqualified me. Not that that would have been a deciding factor, mind...
