A seemingly abandoned house on Godiva Street, Tuesday Morning

Jul 24, 2012 17:12

Since yesterday's meeting, Kate had spent the majority of the rest of the day informing everyone she could about the plan to take Detention on Saturday. And at the end of the day, she'd fallen into a bed that had seen better days in this house that had worked as a hideout for a few days now. Maybe if they were lucky, they'd manage to stay still ( Read more... )

Oh, Luke had heard but he didn't acknowledge it as he wandered around the house. Not only did it seem impolite, but Luke was so stuck in his own brooding that he didn't really have the inclination to worry about someone else's. Even if they were singing about it for the world to hear.

He knew he had some pretty dark thoughts about Kate's whole matter anyway, so he just hoped he could keep his mouth shut. He was humming as he went along and he hoped the island was satisfied with that.

"I don't know. I wouldn't mind going out on my own terms," Luke said. That seemed to be true in any universe he was in. "This whole...thing...it gets tiring after awhile."

"Three years, Luke," Kate replied, flatly. "You don't have to tell me."

And she'd been lucky, too. She'd had Bod for a relatively long time, and she'd never had to see him turn into someone she barely recognized. But still.

She rubbed at her temple. "I've got something maybe I should tell you: I may check out at any given time."

"Yeah, that's all of us." He didn't seem to be too bothered by it though. Even before he came here the chance of death was high, and in the days before Percy had been cursed this place was actually an improvement from other situations he had been in.

"I don't think I'm going out today what with the singing," he said. "I picked up plenty of stuff yesterday though. It's all a little damp but you can have whatever you want."

"I'm not hungry." She rarely was. It didn't mean she didn't actually eat. Not eating wasn't conducive to staging a break-in. "But thanks."

She finished the rest of the coffee. "I might still go out tonight."

"Be careful." Probably didn't need to be said, but he said it anyway. "You should look in the bag before you go out. There might be something for you in there."

Meaning pudding.

"I'll wait up for you." He'd probably do that whether she wanted it or not.

Kate figured as much. "A factual statement, not an offer," she noted, managing a lopsided smile of sorts that didn't actually reach her eyes. "I'm always careful."

More or less.

"Saturday's a big day and I won't miss it."

"I know you won't." Luke knew how much getting revenge meant to her. "I'll do my best to stay in one piece until then as well."

"You better," Kate said, moving to put the empty cup away, and to lean up to kiss him lightly on the cheek.

She'd been an affectionate person. This was what was left. And it served as a minor 'fuck you' to Umbridge's rules, too.

Luke smiled genuinely, which was a rare occurence these days. "Yeah, well, I am pretty amazing."

The ego was still there, yep.

"I'm gonna go take care of my scrapes from yesterday. Ignore any undignified noises coming from my room." Pouring alcohol on cuts burned, okay?

"I always do." Because under the circumstances they were living in, it was not a rare occurrence. "Besides, the island will probably make me sing all over that anyway."

Fun thought, there.

"Go fix yourself up."

She'd be over here discovering pudding.
