I'm halfway done my genetics course, and so far, I'm surviving. It's a four week course, with one semester's worth of material crammed in, that started two weeks ago, so our midterm was on Friday, and our final exam is in two weeks. I know I didn't do spectacularly well on the midterm, but I hope I get a respectable grade. We had a quiz at the ( Read more... )

I would almost dare say that what you're covering now was in my second year genetics class. ( probably, since the old exam still was labelled with a 3000 number, denoting for us, 3rd year.)

I could just pound my head on my desk. I told you of the former dal chem student who was now at york, but doing a cram session for us and saying "why have they crammed second year stuff into first year?"

gene mapping...ech. My classes crammed in so much that you barely had a chance to absorb it, let alone apply it. I never did look at my mark for that class...:D

This is an intro to genetics course. There isn't a second year genetics course.

But it is considered a third year course!

The only genetics I have done, as far as Mendelian genetics, is the odd Punnett square in high school and first year biology, which I took ten years ago. Genetic mapping is all new to me, as well as probabilities of offspring having a certain disease. I'm not sure what we cover in molecular genetics, but I think it is some stuff I may have done in some of my previous courses.

It sounds like you are interested in what he's teaching, and that you are on his good side since you are in other courses he teaches. I'd be in the back crying or sleeping. hahah, I suck at sciences.

I'm not actually all that interested in the material--it's alright, but not really fascinating. Also, I'm not in any other courses he teaches. He only teaches genetics, and this is the first out of two courses I will have with him. I'm in the microbiology program, and he took micro courses whenever he did his undergrad, where ever that was.

I wish I had any interest in it, it just boggles my brain. You are so much closer to that than me. ;)
