When there ain't nowhere you can go

When I was a teenager, before iPods, back when we still used yellow Sony Walkmans, music was my life, which is typical for most teens. My favourite bands were Green Day, Pulp, Oasis, Noise Therapy, Smashing Pumpkins, Silverchair, and Marilyn Manson, to name a few. I went to too many concerts to count, and listened to the radio all the time-- ( Read more... )

childhood, you know you're getting old when..., alcoholic dad, green day, about me, noise

You do realize that I had to put up with dad's radio in the morning/at night and TV up until just a year ago right? At least you have had respite from this for 9 years. I think I win in the "who suffered more" contest. 9 years.

I guess you have certainly suffered the longest, and I know that everyone suffered quite badly. The point I was trying to make was that my bedroom was right against the bathroom and his bedroom, causing me extra suffering, as I was never free from it. I realize that his radio in the bathroom would have affected you almost as much as me (at least the radio was not pressed up against your wall!), but at least when he slept you didn't hear his radio all night long! That was my point!

No, I heard the TV. Remember that for the last several years he was working during the evening, and would get home around 11 pm, then watch TV for several hours, and my bed was directly above the TV, and sound would travel up through the vent in my room. The bathroom radio may have been directly against your wall, and the office next to your room, but trust me I could still hear his radio even when he was in the master bedroom.

I did not realize that. When I lived at home, he would watch TV in his bedroom (which was still audible throughout the entire house), so that was the set-up I was thinking of.

Well, we both fucking suffered from lack of sleep because of him! I was always so damn exhausted. How I managed to get through school, I have no idea.

It might a stretch for some, but I consider Green Day the Beatles of my generation... they were relevant when I was a kid and looking for "answers" to life, and they're still relevant today. Their songs are timeless!!!

It's certainly no stretch for me. I agree--their music and lyrics were relevant to me 15 years ago, and they still are to this day. I've outgrown the other bands I used to listen to, but not Green Day.

Their songs are timeless!!!

Well put!

I take it you were a huge green day fan?

Yay, you're back! I'll add you.

I've only listened to the new Green Day album a few times, but not properly. So far, there aren't any song I love, but hopefully that will change.
