No cavities!

It's been years since I have been to a dentist, so this year one of my goals was to finally go. It's embarrassing how long it has been--at least ten years, perhaps more, but the reason I haven't been is because I've had such a chaotic life and have been struggling so much just trying to stay stable, that going to the dentist was not high on my ( Read more... )

Do you floss?

I'm definitely going to go regularly (as in more often than once a decade) because it's so close to my home, regardless if I have a dental plan. (It only cost me $18.23!)

unfortunately, no, i don't floss, but I've tried it, and I hate flossing. so here's to hoping my mouth isn't so gross! dentists here in the states are so fucking expensive and there are few dental plans ....i don't know how much mine will cost but i doubt it would be 18.23!

I don't understand how people can not floss. When I eat something, I have something visibly stuck in my teeth, and I can't bear to let other people see. If you don't go to a dentist regularly, you really should floss; brushing is not enough! (As I mentioned, I neglect my brushing and often don't brush in the evening, unless I am going out.)

Do you have a dental plan? How much would a basic cleaning be, at full cost? It would have been $180 for me, but it is well worth it not to have your teeth rot out! (Of course if I had to pay full price, I wouldn't go every six months, or even every year, but at least every few years.)

Wow, 22 cavities. Did some teeth have several? Did you floss regularly? Perhaps genetics also play a role in it.

I've also never had fillings or anything, just braces.

I also had 20 small ones when I had my braces off. That's not including all the other ones I had as a child and otherwise. I've had over 60, easily, plus gum surgery, the aforementioned braces, 2 frenectomies, plus my tonsils and adenoids out = a lot of oral surgery. Oh, and all my wisdom teeth out. Yes, some teeth have had several, and some were in my baby teeth. Genetics is definitely a factor, but mostly it was my sugar addiction. I did take care of my teeth but obviously not well enough. I did not floss regularly when I was younger, but I sure do now. My dietary changes have helped a lot, too.
You don't want fillings, they suck. And I have so many surface ones that I can't whiten my teeth. Lame-o-rama. I'm lucky my teeth look as good as they do.

As a child, I didn't have the best oral hygiene habits--usually just brushed once a day, and I certainly ate sugary things (although I never had an addiction). I guess I was just lucky, and flossing helped (I started flossing regularly as a teen, as that is when I got braces).
