nine key memes

from ulysses lazarus' post on his eight key memes:

i've grown ever more closed off and skeptical since then fizzyland January 19 2009, 21:24:56 UTC
I so hear that - mainly from my own head. In part, it's a response to feeling suckered in some cases. I've operated in that gray zone of new age/conspiracy theory stuff since the mid-80's.

somehow i knew that about you. ;p

i used to think that all these disjointed people saying the same thing was evidence enough.

not so much anymore. especially when these people's websites are mostly buymybookbuymybookbuymybook. and when you research the ideas they lightly tap on (i.e. the mayan calendar, water crystal "research", feng shui, etc) you realize no one knows SHIT.

baaahhh, stop me before i rant about the new age community, or as i like to call it Spirituality For Ignorant White Liberals.

this was cool, thanks. for my own part, buddhism is the meme that's had the biggest effect on me, other than science, if you could call that a meme. but these days i don't find myself wanting to talk too much about buddhism. somehow it makes me uncomfortable to verbalize it these days, and also, i don't want to talk about it and think about it so much anymore. i just want it to be part of me.

i totally hear you on being more closed-off and skeptical. i think it's important to focus as one gets older. that's how you really hone yourself. you get sharp and you can cut deeper that way.

i'm in exactly the same spot with it. and i figure maybe that's really the buddhist thing to do. :)
