I'm enjoying your summaries more than I think I'd enjoy the show. I've always had the theory that Lodbroek was called that because of the amount of hair on his legs and I doubt Travis Fimmel would fulfill my fantasy.

The show is oddly charming! In some ways. But I don't know if I can really recommend it unless you're really into hot Vikings or hot priests. :D

(That's always been my secret theory as well!)

I'm curious as to exactly what you mean by rational argument? Can you give a Western versus African example? (For I am dumb, alas :))

Not really! It's pretty difficult to explain in a clear-cut way - like, it's something that both I and flatmate and other of our non-Sudanese friends have noticed and agree exists, so there's definitely something, but it's kind of cumulative? Like, each example is not so much on its own. (Also, I am definitely definitely not talking about Africa, only about Sudan - I don't want to make any kind of claims that the same thing would necessarily be observed anywhere else ( ... )
