Kissing In A Tree 5.4

I've been so ded. Sorry 'bout the wait. We had to shovel a lot of snow.

!!!!

Hope had to watch Lex all by herself. And it wasn’t as easy as it looked when your boss constantly walked into danger. Bullies were drawn to him as if he had an invisible sign over his bald head that said ‘beat me up, please.’ The teacher was always looking to take him down and make him feel dumb. And most girls weren’t a problem, unless they wanted some of Lex’s candy. He had to give out candy jewelry sometimes so he wouldn’t get crowded. And the Nasty Green Fairy was always lurking about.

Though she had started setting her sights on that dark skinned boy who was Clark’s friend, there could still be trouble. She hoped Mercy was doing all right without her. Not that she doubted her girlfriend, but she always felt unbeatable when they were together.

Lex walked down the hall, trying to catch up with Clark for recess, but that pretty boy could go real fast when he wanted to. The new blonde girl called out for another interview with him but was dragged down with the redhead trying to dance around her talking.

Then that Billy started moving towards Lex and Hope knew she’d really have to stand her ground.

The other kids parted away from the other boy because he was the biggest in their class, and he liked to push them down if they didn’t get out of the way fast enough.

Lex, of course, was heading almost right for him.

“Boss, trouble at nine o’clock!” Hope whispered to him.

Lex turned the opposite direction and missed him completely.

“No, your other nine o’clock!”

The black haired boy was almost upon them and Lex finally turned the right way.

“Maybe your four o’clock?”

She pushed him back while she stood between him and the dark haired boy. He was dressed in big jeans and a black shaggy shirt. He had to have been held back because he was a couple of inches taller than anyone else. He was like a pee wee football player that played a lot of games, too. He had a habit of punching in one hand with his fist, as if he was practicing for something.

That fist was coming together now, but it didn’t aim for his hand.

“Hope, we need to work on your clocking skills.”

“Maybe later, boss.”

How could that boy still be avoiding her? Lana could not understand his reasoning at all. The boy she had now identified as Pete had treated her as if she, the perfect fairy princess, was an ugly old toad to be avoided. He must still be shy after all this time. There could be no other reason.

She wore one of her frilliest, pinkest dresses today to grab his attention.

“Hi, Pete. Don’t you want to tell me how pretty I am?”

But he had still avoided her eyes and run for the tether ball court.

And that Clark boy was tagging right along with him. And the blonde girl in dark glasses was trailing after the two of them but keeping back a ways.

Lana thought to herself what she could do that would get him to look at her. Nothing came to mind. After all, she had never needed to think about getting others to see her before. She sat to watch them and see for a time where she could get him alone. She smiled prettily in pink as she thought of a perfect plan.

Kisses were the most romantic thing.

I’ll get you my Petey.

And your little heart, too!
