Security deposit checks are usually deposited in escrow. Whichever one of you wrote the checks, you should be able to talk to your bank and get information about when/where/by whom those checks were deposited.

I have to say though that in my entire life and the eight apartments I have lived in, I have only gotten security deposit back once. It's pretty much a sham and I generally assume that money is spent, not that I'll ever see it again.

Whoever wrote the check should get in touch with their bank, with as much information as possible, and get a copy of the cancelled check. They need to be kept on file for seven years by law, so there shouldn't be an issue.

The phone number for C21's headquarters is here: http://www.century21.com/faqs/contactingc21

I would contact them, and see if there's anything they can do for you.

Good luck!
