OK, so I spend a lot of time in my apartment. A whole lot. Basically, whenever I'm not at work, I'm here ( Read more... )

Let's see, I've been reading so much nonfiction and YA lit that I can't remember the last time I read adult fiction.

This is totally random, but I've been rereading Aesop's Fables, and they're pretty neat to read as an "adult."

Have you read Aimee Bender's The Girl in the Flammable Skirt? I like it better than her novel An Invisible Sign of My Own.

Tom Robbins "Skinny Legs and All"
Alice Sebold "The Lovely Bones"
A. Golden "Memoirs of a Geisha"*
Janet Fitch "White Oleander" *
Sue Monk Kid "The Secret Life of Bees"*

None of these are life-altering novels, but they're all really good reads (and are better than the movie versions, for those that were optioned). Asterisk denotes books I have a copy of here; I'm totally willing to mail you a few to borrow, because books are expensive. :) Just let me know if you're interested and you can email me your address (bingham.emily@gmail.com)

I think we must have the same taste in books because I've read Memoirs of a Geisha, White Oleander (both are on my list of favorite books of all-time) and The Secret Life of Bees.
I read all three long before the movies, and I agree.

I have been wanting to read "The Lovely Bones" for a long time. Maybe I'll go with that next. And I've never heard of "Skinny Legs and All"

If you liked those three, than definitely read "The Lovely Bones" next. I read it while stranded in two days worth of traffic on the way to a Phish festival; everyone else was partying on the side of the road and I was so engrossed that I sat in the back of someone's Jeep, reading like a maniac until I finished it.

Argh! I wish I had my copy (I used to, but lost it) because then we could start a book swap.

Lame to describe totally awesome apartment without photos of said apartment. I will continue to be angry with you until you rectify this situation.

OH! I can't wait for you to have a party so I can spend the night and sleep on the green rug in the kitchen :0)

You've probably already read it, but I really love Catcher in the Rye.

I have another question for you. Do you know Jackie's friend, Rachel? Well, her boyfriend Lorin, who happens to be a friend of mine from high school, just got a full time job with a radio station out in Port Huron. I guess he has to move within 30 days. So I was wondering where is your apartment, do you like it (the apartment; I know you hate the city), and is the rent reasonable?

yep, I have met Rachel.

I love my apartment. Like, really love. It's seriously the best thing about living here. The rent is really cheap and my complex is only a couple years old. I have a two bedroom/two bath, literally 4 minutes from downtown where I work (where he would probably work, too) and I pay almost the same I paid in East Lansing for an apartment half the size that I shared. It's also pet friendly, if that's a concern.
Tell your friend he should definitely think about my complex, if he wants to see it/find out more info, he can come check out my place next time he's in town.

p.s. the only downside is that it's income-based housing, so if he makes a lot of money, he will pay more, vice versa. That's the weird thing, there are people here I know pay less than I do for the same apt. just because they make less than me, which is ridiculous to me because I think I make shit money.
