I interned at a travel agency in Lisbon/Portugal and while the internet existed already, people still relied on the travel agency to book tickets and reconfirm them.
I still use a travel agent for my Boss' arrangement but for my own private travels I usually just book direct online....
Does he need to take any special classes for the booking system? Back then it was Abacus, now it's something else I don't recall the name of. I remember I had to memorise world maps and cities too! Start with city and airport codes!

I don't know if he has to take classes for the system. Probably there is on the job training. He is interested in the tourguiding, I think, but that will probably take a while. The company is JTB. They probably have an online system as well. Do you know the company?
