I love singing along to pretty much any song I know. Here is one from the SPN collection that I've got memorized and will always sing along to.

Puff the magic dragon! It always irritates me when people try to say that this song is about drugs, because, okay, there are a lot of songs about drugs out there, but sometimes songs are just about imagination. I happen to know this is the latter. Not everything that could be interpreted as a reference to drugs and sex is actually about drugs and sex. There really is more to life.

(Of course, then there's a song like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds where the title acronym of LSD was a total coincidence - it came from a child's title for his drawing - but the song itself really was heavily influenced by LSD)

Music is an artform. It doesn't really matter what the writer meant, it´s what you want it to mean to you, aye? That being said, I doubt PPM meant it to be about drugs. I´m sure it could be about imagination but also growing into adulthood and loss of innocence in general.

Both the writers of PPM (hey, one more letter and it could be an SPN episode about clowns!) say the song had nothing to do with drugs. And Mary says, "Believe me, if [Peter] wanted to write a song about marijuana, he would have written a song about marijuana." So I'm thinking this one was about childhood. I specifically saw it as being about the loss of childhood imagination, but yeah, I can see it as childhood in general.

Thank you for the article! Love the last line, that any song can be interpreted as a "drug song" LOL Also neat that the writers meant what I thought they meant <3

I have sung Puff The Magic Dragon, too. :) With Finnish lyrics, though. It's a relatively well-known children's song here.

I love The Gambler (song and movie)! It's a great song to sing along to. And I remember singing the Puff song too, when I was younger.

i remember both of these songs. my younger brother was obsessed with the gambler when he was little and made my parents play it all the time.
