The detail here is lovely and I adore Sam's attempts to do what his father would have him do even while growing increasingly irrational.
Here's looking forward to Dean and John finding delusional and in shock :)

One parallel I've had fun exploring is how all three of the Winchesters have to remind themselves to focus in a crisis, John because of worries for the boys, Dean and Sam because of being scared, hurt, worried about everyone else. I figure to a younger Sam, Dad's still a hero.
Well, this isn't gonna be an epic, but there is just a bit more to go. *grins*
