There are a million of reasons going on inside my head to defend Kris Allen's winning the Idol 2009 crown. Please remember as you read through this that I mean no disrespect to Adam Lambert. I like that you hit up on needing his genre. That's why I liked him from the beginning! I listen to people like Landon Pigg, KT Tunstall, Jason Mraz, and other artists like him. You know, singer/songwriters of the folk or adult alternative worlds. We haven't really even gotten close despite their recent popularity. I think it was our time.
I also love the underdog story. They didn't bother to promo him at all. They didn't intend to let him go this far. Not only is it great to have someone so refreshing, but it is amazing to know that we got him by defiance.

A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY. He entered as Kris Allen, and left as the new American Idol.
I love both Adam and Kris, and I wish we could have a tie this year, but someone's got to win it, and I couldn't be happier if it was Kris or Adam. :]

Anyway, I have two things to say. First, I think both Adam and Kris have unique singing types compared to previous Idol winners. There hasn't been a winner like Kris, but even though Adam's a rocker, he's also unique from all of the other winners. So I think they're both definitely unique, so I'm glad we had that in the finale.
Also, this is just me being bitter, and I don't want to be mean, but... As a gay guy, when we're trying to get the right to marry, I can't get very excited about the first married Idol winner when it means the first openly gay Idol lost.
