Hmm. But aren't there some illnesses that are desirable? I submit for your review antisocial personality disorder, whose victims (sociopaths) have no regret when they make mistakes and never suffer embarassment. There are compulsive workers, who experience great success in life. And what about that long-ago bacterial infestation that led to our symbiotic relationship with digestive probiotics?

Many altered states are only maladaptive when you fail to take account of all the symptoms.

*chuckle* I've said for a long time that romance is generally a hormone-induced thing. If you can back up your feelings with logical thought and reasoning, then you're getting somewhere. There's nothing wrong with romantic feelings, but I believe the general drive for most relationships is the dopamine flooding the brain and the other endorphins released when having sex. Then again, I have little faith in the majority of relationships the majority of the people of the world choose to engage in... ;)
