When Elle got home from her assignment, Costa Verde was in rubbles, and she felt her stomach turn. Why hadn’t anyone told her about this? What had happened? She made the Taxi drive her into the destroyed remains, threatening any lawmen who tried to not let her inside. Nothing quite said powers of persuasion like a ball of blue lightening crackling in her hand. Finally, she reached where their house used to be and threw her money at the Cab driver, not even waiting for a response before making her way over to the remains.
When Noah Bennet had offered his old home to her and Gabriel, Elle had been surprised to say the very least. But she supposed it made enough sense, he and Sandra wanted a smaller space to stay now that Lyle was grown up, and it wasn’t like Claire was going to settle down and start a family any time soon. Probably for the best, that. He had said that his namesake had deserved a chance at somewhat normal life.
And they had managed to keep one. Gabriel stayed home with Noah, and she went out from time to time to do assignments for the Company (it had taken a lot of begging from Angela to get a job with them again) not so much because they needed money (Bob had left her with more than enough) but because Elle got restless staying home for too long. She had to go out and get her kicks somehow. Better to do it far away where her son wouldn’t know she had sadistic tendencies.
But she regretted it now. Something had happened to her family while she was gone. Her stomach lurched as she looked through the debris, trying to figure out what happened. And then she heard a shaking voice behind her.
“I did it. I lost control Elle. I destroyed everything,” Gabriel sounded so destroyed, so weak. He didn’t sound like the strong man she married at all.
“Where’s Noah, where’s our son?” Elle demanded, her eyes watering as she was pretty sure she already knew the answer. But she had to hear it. She had to. For closure’s sake, if nothing else.
“They killed him. Claire and her goons were here…they wanted Peter, but it wasn’t our Peter, it was a different one, but she didn’t care. She wanted him..so they killed..” Gabriel took a deep breath, trying to calm himself enough to finish telling his wife the horrible news. “They killed Noah…and I couldn’t stand it. It hurt so badly, and before I knew it I was exploding..I was so hurt, and angry, I wanted them to hurt just like I did. I didn’t mean to do it. I didn’t mean to kill again. But he’s dead Elle, they killed our son, what was I supposed to do?”
Elle pursed her lips, tears sliding down her cheeks as she wrapped her arms around Gabriel’s torso, hugging onto him for all it was worth. It was just them now. “Did Claire escape afterwards?”
“Of course, her healing power saved her, just like it did me”
“Then we go after her. A shot to her head will take her out, if she’s anything like Adam Monroe was” Despite her tears Elle’s voice was strangely calm. Gabriel just buried his face into her shoulder, nodding in agreement.
Claire Bennet had destroyed their family, so now they would destroy her.
