Title: Knocking Out The Stupid
Characters/Pairings: Sylar/Elle, Claude
Rating: PG-13
Summary: AU of what happened at the beach. Our favorite invisible man has been keeping an eye on Elle since she came to see him in London (from the webcomics) and he can’t just sit by and watch her have a stupid death.
“You’re hurting me,” Elle whimpered underneath his hand. What was he doing? She was so confused and overwhelmed, as much as she had wanted to die a few days ago, she didn’t want to now. How did Bennet know exactly how to get to someone?
“I know,” He whispered and raised his fingers, ready to do the signature slice across the head. Not that he needed to crack it open or anything, as he already had her power. But it was the way he was most familiar with killing someone. But just as the incision was about to start, he felt a sharp whack into the back of his head.
“Oi,” Came a disembodied, sharp British voice. “Are you daft or something?”
Elle’s eyes widened in surprise as she heard that familiar voice call out. “Claude?”
“Claude? Who’s Claude?” Sylar asked in a paranoid voice, looking around. She had someone with her? Another one of her tricks as a company girl? Had she even stopped working for the Company at all? Maybe this had been all a ploy to try to keep better control over him. All the more reason to kill her.
Suddenly, the figure of a scruffy, almost homeless looking man appeared behind him, whacking him across the head once more. “I’m Claude and for someone who sees how things work, you’re pretty stupid.”
“What are you doing here?” Elle asked, using Sylar’s confusion to push herself away from him, shocking him a little in order to get him to loosen his grip.
“I followed you after you left London. You’re apparently in worse shape than I thought if you’re going to let Romeo here kill you.”
Sylar prickled a little at that. “She lied to me. She always lies to me, she knew they weren’t my parents. Bennet sai-“
“And he’s always a good source of information. Because he wasn’t taught to manipulate people for the company” Claude drawled with a roll of his eyes. “Did you think to just ask her if she knew anything? And even if she did lie, why do you have to kill her? That seems a little extreme, don’t you think?”
“I’m a killer, that’s all I can be” He insisted.
“That’s not true Gabriel, you could be something else, you’ve changed, you have a choice.”
He turned to look over at Elle, glaring his eyes. “No, they lied to me; made me think I could change because I was their child. But I wasn’t and I can’t. “
There was another roll of his eyes and a whack to Sylar’s head at that. “You sound as bad as Peter. Whine whine whine, I can’t control it, it’s not my fault. If you want control, you have to find it. You always have a choice. And if you’re choosing to kill a girl who cares about you so much that she forgave you for killing your father, then you’re an idiot. That’s all there is to it.”
“But it’s too late, “ Sylar’s voice faltered. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t really want to kill her…but wasn’t that all he was capable of?
“I think that’s for her to decide. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have other things to keep an eye on. “ He smiled a little to Elle as he began to fade. “You know how to find me if you need me.”
Sylar blinked a little in confusion as he watched the invisible footsteps walk away. He had to stop the twitch in his hand and the ticking in his head. What a wonderful power that could be, but this was hardly the time. And then he looked down, his hands invisible and his eyes widened. The only power he had ever taken empathically before was Elle’s. “…Who was that?” He asked in confusion and wonderment.
“He used to work for the company. I went to find him when my powers first started acting up” She explained, scooting a little closer to him now. “You know, if you let me, I could help you.”
“Help me?” He asked in a hesitant voice. He never, ever let anyone help him. He was special; he could solve things out for himself, right? He didn’t need anyone. And yet his heart was yearning for her so much that it scared him. And maybe that’s why he really wanted to kill her. He wasn’t used to needing someone. It was scary.
“Your real parents. Their names will be in your file at the Company. That’s where Bennet said he saw them, right? They’d be in Daddy’s old office. If anyone can help you get in there and find them, it’s me.” After all, she had once looked for her own file there, even if it had been missing.
He hesitated for a moment before draping an arm around her shoulder, bringing her close to him. In the distance, he could hear the crashing of the waves, and his hands began to fade once more, and then reappear. He really would have to spend time later mastering that one. But for now, he tried to just focus at the task at hand. “…Why do you want to help me? I almost killed you”
“And I did kill you several times a few weeks ago, but you didn’t hold that against me. You were right Gabriel, we are both damaged goods” She leaned in, pressing a soft kiss against his lips before pulling away. “But that doesn’t mean we both can’t be a little less damaged together”
“Maybe that’s the most we can hope for” He murmured, bringing a hand up to brush away some of her hair. She didn’t flinch this time. Not like earlier. Whatever had been passing through them before seemed to of passed, and he found himself relieved that he hadn’t gone through with it after all. “You know, if I ever see that man again, I’ll have to thank him.”
“What for?” Elle asked, resting her head on his shoulder now. Eventually, they’d need to find shelter for the night, but for now she was content just sitting here with him on the beach.
“Knocking the stupid out of me”
She laughed a little. “Yeah, he’s good at that.”
